The 9/2/26 filing follows President Trump’s reduction of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments by 91 and 90 percent respectively. Nearly 3 million acres of land lost national monument protections in largest cut to public lands protection in U.S. history.

Happy #AnimationMonday on the 25th anniversary of the release of Osmosis Jones! 26+ years ago a bunch of us crazy biologists got to work with Tom Sito and his crew bouncing around crazy ideas for the film. I still use parts of it in my human Anatomy & Physiology course!

30 years ago Bears Ears Ntnl Monument was protected. I’ve done paleontology there & I was consultant for the film Spirit. Trump has now gutted BENM where Spirit first ran free. Lend your voice to protect these public lands. #SVPPresident #SpiritStallionoftheCimmaron #BearsEars

12/12/25 is the 10th anniversary of the San Bernardino terrorist shootings. 14 people lost their lives, including five Calif St Univ San Bernardino Alumni. Please do not give into hate and divisive rhetoric, but instead remember them by coming together as a community. Image: the CSUSB Peace Garden.

I just finished a day near Georgenthal and Tambach-Dietharz, Thuringia, Germany where the locals are very proud of the Dimetrodon and other early Permian fossils we've excavated there over the years. They love our fossils, and we love the local bratwurst!

Happy #FossilFriday ! This image is to celebrate the (almost) 25th anniversary of when the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology meeting was in Bozeman, MT in 2001. My (then) young son Darwin's first SVP, here posed under the foot of MOR 555, the T. rex "Big Mike".

Hi Everyone. This was just published on the "Conversation" website. An important discussion of "who owns history". theconversation.com/fossils-are-...

Fossils are scientific evidence, and shouldn’t be auctioned for millions to private buyers
Dinosaur fossils are sold for millions to private collectors. These fossils are scientific evidence, and need to be accessible for research and public education.

Happy to finally see this out! New hominin fossils from the Ledi-Geraru site in the Afar Region, Ethiopia reveal that early Homo lived alongside an as-yet unnamed new species of Australopithecus between 2.78 and 2.63 million years ago. www.nature.com/articles/s41... 🧪
My dirty fingers with dirt under the nails holding a small fossil tooth with a black root just over a wooden table. The tooth is an upper canine (LD 760-115979) of an as-yet unnamed species of Australopithecus from the Ledi-Geraru Site, Afar Region, Ethiopia. This and associated fossils from the site were the first record of Australopithecus from Ledi-Geraru. Photo from the field in 2018; I'd just glued a sliver of enamel back onto the tooth.
