Never trust a man who pronounces "nukular".

Simple motto I figured out many years ago (as a long-haired youth, sometimes therefore wrongly called gay or worse): "If you have to ask, you don't need to know." Put that on bathroom doors!

Floor plan claims that one reception room is over 131 feet wide. (Although pics seem to agree,) I'd expect* an agent to do better for the commission on nearly £2m. *not really

A perfect word for something that's been deliberately made difficult and/or complicated for no good reason. Commercial software I worked with was often this way, in order to sell training courses.

It's a typo, he meant "beyond the stairs" - the back ones, behind the gold escalator. The ones the trafficked kids are brought up.

Responsible for my first home visit from, and my most recent visit to, a doctor, nearly 70 years apart. It never stops. (I don't swim or get them wet. Latest bout followed wax removal at hospital)

This entire thread ought to flash up the first dozen or so times any new or occasional user tries to reply to anything. Preceded by "Are you sure?", with the Reply button disabled until they've read the whole thing, slowly. Life could be a dream...

Not far away in the same town... designed by/for an optometrist. Hard to photograph well these days since the current owner put a hedge around it (and added other dull features).
House with two adjoining windows framed to look like eyeglasses.

Nice. Not a patch on this though.
House in Wimereux, Northern France, with a smile-shaped window on the ground floor and two eye-like shuttered windows above. One eye has its blind drawn.

Good to see you again. Today I was clearing out some stuff after my own challenging time last year, and found an old birthday card I'd never thrown. It's your Owls gag "Actually, it's To Whom". I'm taking that as a sign to keep it.

I tried to do this for about 3 minutes of irreplaceable VHS. Tested the VHS machine with a different tape, bought the adaptor, checked that it worked. Put the priceless tape in the VHS which promptly chewed it up. It's still there, waiting for me to extract, disentangle and find another machine.

Eating, not cooking. Betcha this character doesn't know how to cook eggs, or steak for that matter. Perhaps the wife he married so early does it for him? Like she* does everything else? Now I want to hear her* view... *or he/his.

Maybe not. As written, that line denies all of those that follow. So this could have been a deliberate look-how-clever-I-am sleeper-cell signal all along. Though it *is* more likely that she's an ignorant chancer like all the others.

You're right. So the fact that I've only noticed them between April and August, and that in the last 15 years, is perhaps more on me than on them. But... "...resident in the milder west of its range, but migrates from colder regions." Sensible birds!

I didn't have space to write all that, but yes. Countries on Earth are usually named after a dominant tribe or leader (often the same thing if we look back far enough). Places named by SF aliens get called whatever the writer was looking at, with no backstory. "Tattooine? Where we filmed it."

In SF stories, our human home planet is called Earth (or Terra/Terror to display some classical knowledge or make a point), but all other planets are known to their inhabitants by polysyllables with no meaning. Perhaps I should write one about a space war after which ours is renamed Blue Mars?

As a licensed pedant I'm obliged to point out that the phrase "substitute for" (instead of e.g. "substitute with") makes the complaint mean exactly opposite of what I presume was intended. Not clear whether it's a quote or Daily Fail laziness (see also the quotemarks around 'virtue-signally').

As in apartheid-era South Africa, where the signs designating park benches, train carriages etc. as "Whites only" or "Non-whites only" were often worded as "Europeans only" and "Non-Europeans only". Most of the white rulers had never been to Europe.
