Whilst in Toronto we visited the sea life centre and although it was fascinating what made me so was how people stopped and found a sense of calm. Had to love this section, if I had headphones on me I'd have listened to Vivaldi (my go to relaxation tunes) and sought serenity. #calm #serenity

I was exploring where I can plug AI into my creative process. So I took an image of me, beard, now long gone, and asked it to render me as a painting. Am I happy? Yes, and no. This was only possible because AI had used the years of creative development of an artist to achieve it. #ai

Me as a painting, some artist has been screwed over and the counterfeit industry in China, in the words of Trump, "totally obliterated", which means some have changed to other enterprises but not all!

Lewis Revival hits the headlines with Trump admonishment

Lewis Revival, Stornoway’s vintage & fairtrade emporium on South Beach Street, is gearing up for the tourist season in more ways than one. It’s gallery space, where local makers can showcase their wares in town, is crammed with hand-crafted items as usual, but the store is also using its shopfront to project a message on to the world stage.

“Shame on you, Donald John,” reads a large banner attached to the railings outside the shop, which also carries the hashtag #democracy. To the right of the banner, the Ukrainian flag flies.

The gesture, which is clearly aimed at the US president, whose mother hailed from Tong in Lewis (please relax, other Donald Johns), was picked up by broadcaster STV, which interviewed Lewis Revival’s owners, Sarah and Peter Venus, about the banner.

Sarah Venus, who is originally from Denver, Colorado, told STV that the banner was in line with Hebridean understatement. “We figured this wording would be appropriate, to use his middle name as our mothers do when they’re displeased with us,” she said.

Smaller poster-size versions of the banner are available for free inside the shop.

A high key edit... Had to shoot into the sun but I liked the composition. So the edit had to be high key and follow a minimalist trope.

In a dark wood, I saw the edge of the wood through branches in the tree, thought of a dragon eye!

The puddle and the overcast sky kept everything in the same tones, I had to do it!

I should have taken a knee to shoot this but I had my favourite walking trousers on! Standard composition.

Whilst on a documentary assignment in a dry dock I thought I'd recreate an old image the client had. I love documentary, story telling through images.
This is a portrait of two engineers working in a dry dock with a ship in the dry dock behind them.
I rendered the image in black and white to match an old image the client had on a wall.

This is an image of rooftops in Stirling. This reflected my idea of depression. There is no smile coming from the chimneys and no snow melting in the roofs, meaning that the inside is cold and dead. The mist represents the inability to look forward whilst the colour palette gives you the general feeling of loneliness.

I believe that there are no bad photographs just the wrong viewer! I don't create images for others I create them for me, unless I'm paid to shoot, but even then I sneak something in for myself. Your harshest critic is you. However, if you find something you like that others do too, walk that road!

Both are valid, staying true to your journey but exploring options. Scott Adams said "Creativity is about making mistakes, Art is about knowing which ones to keep". I venture out of my comfort zone, sometimes it's horrible, but it adds to the creative journey, one which I hope never ends.
