Using Rarewaves always makes me wonder what actually happens to second class post for it to take so long. I mean, where does it go??

The trouble with going through the Troughton era day by day is when you read an entry like this in the present tense you really feel you ought to be able to do something about it. Like going full Sylvester and shouting "Stop! I command it!!"
From The Doctor Who Production Diary: The Troughton Years by David Brunt - an account of how the master tapes for The Highlanders have been approved for erasure, on Thursday, 9 March, 1967.

I used to do that, but by the 90s I was starting recs going during the end credits of the previous prog, so I could catch trails as well as continuity. Also, because the new idents blew me away. I disposed of my VHS tapes but, fortunately, others are doing the Lord's work by uploading old junctions.

For those of us who taped them at the time, the original continuity announcements are deeply engrained. When I'm old I'll still be babbling intros to Red Dwarf, Blackadder and Bottom along with random lines from Doctor Who.

Not to worry. I'd ordered a couple of things and eventually got emails about both being delayed. But B7 never materialised. Customer service was prompt, though, and they issued a refund. I'll try again at a later date.

I fear my journey has already ended. I had to cancel Series B today because Lulu failed to print and deliver it. 😕

I've only read as far as the AUC section but it's wonderful. (My, though, the pages feel delicate - I've already creased two of them.) What with this and the Troughton Production Diary nothing else will be getting a look-in for a while.

Surely, Don't Let Me Down by the Beatles should be in there... Followed by This Is It by Kenny Loggins, then Is That It? by Katrina & The Waves.

They'd still have their moments. Oh, What a Beautiful Mourning and The Desperate Hours are great, and they're in season 7. But both helped enormously by supporting characters.

Why, thank you, Amazon. What an appropriate choice of packaging.
Poor Amazon packaging, busted open on arrival.

Mine's arriving today, but I am wondering if I should have gone with the digital version like I did with Hartnell. But it's Troughton so what the hell.

Yes, and I'll never forget the audience tumbling down the hill towards the train station like competitors in a cheese rolling competition because it overran so much. But it was a great day.

I feel sure that Anneka was channelling her appreciation of Battlefield in that photo and was about to drop through the roof of a barn accompanied by Keff McCulloch.

I've started to move away from the chunky Hammer box sets, as lovely as they are. But this will do very nicely, thank you. Saw this for the first time only a few months ago and loved it. #xtheunknown

I've decided I really like grouper. Mainly because they're big enough for these 50 year-old eyes to see, unlike the tiny creatures my dive guides try to show me. Grouper also have an air of "don't bother me, I'm thinking", which appeals.

By the way, how good is Philip Ray in this? I've taken his performance for granted since the original VHS but he's so believable in it.

Ooh, this will be fun. I finished a rewatch only last night, inspired by @jonnymorris.bsky.social's recent rewatch. The direction is great. I watched it on my largest TV yet and noticed a lot of studio lights.

Certainly The Savages until I spent a year working on the doc. Then I knew it inside out. Also Underworld, which is just a fog of CSO. Meglos was the last existing classic Who I hadn't seen until the DVD. I didn't bother with the VHS. Consequently I don't think I've watched it more than three times.

I watched this for the first time recently, too, and loved it. I didn't really miss the Professor but could appreciate how good it would be as a Quatermass. I also watched Abominable Snowman for the first time the other week but nodded off.

The knob at the front just seems like the volume for monitoring the signal, which he returns to the same level. But it's not clear what he's doing at the back before he tries to prise the lid off. Presumably they wanted to leave the audience unsure if he'd achieved anything.

I know, I know, but he doesn't appear to do anything at all. So it's always felt like a bit of a leap to me. Just like whipping the unconscious Doctor out of the back of the T-Mat cubicle. But anyway, it's a cracking story otherwise.

I never quite understand if the Martian fleet follow the fake homing signal by accident as the Doctor doesn't seem to do anything to theirs.
