Proper lots of moving parts fantasy of the mostly politics and intrigue variety. Is 800 pages but flies past. And huzzah, not a festival of grim although not all funsies. Some lovely writing and characters who have nuance which is nice.

Cinderella but she’s a ghost. So much better than that makes it sound. It’s worth it just for the what it would be to embody a building bits. Obvs you know how it ends but it’s just twisty enough to be fun all the same.

The problem of one of the parties having large funders that are, to some extent, a structural part of the party seems as relevant as the public but no one want to say "our funders don't like the idea of losing influence" because, well, that is the quiet part

This is the bit that gets me. There are plenty of jobs where you cannot do things you might like to do as it conflicts with the job and you just have to suck it up. For a start I would bet there's many things football players can't do because they have to be playing football of a weekend.

Feels like a love letter to architecture and an excoriation of the ego of architects. Great on the power of spaces, the monomania of legacy and the unintended consequences of machines. Does a lot in a hundred odd pages without seeming to.

Arthurian but not really about Arthur and more about the power and value of myth, being trapped by it and yet not. Long, slow build to a, for me, unexpected and lovely ending. The sort of book you want to read again to enjoy how it got to the ending.

At some point it would be nice if politicians would start pointing out that many of the problems we have as a nation are because we chose not to spend money in favour of fiscal discipline and that the latter is an abstract concept that does not improve lives and, say, plentiful housing does.

I’d also say that iPhones do a lot of magic to make the photos look good and it’s possible that a simple camera will do a lot less of that and it might take more work to get good results out.

The main thing to watch out is how wide the lens is, I.e how much stuff it can get on the screen. That Fuji has a 35mm lens which is a chunk narrower than the standard 24mm on an iPhone which is going to be a consideration for taking photos of walls

Nuns, lady knights, bees, sulphurous ferrets, cannibalism, weird magic and limited explanation. There's a delightful edge of whimsy, the horror is not too horrible and it just gets madder as you go on. Probably not for the squeamish.

So many things now deal in such short timespans and it keeps getting us in trouble. It is so much easier to keep patching over the cracks when you know, and don't care, that the truly long term consequences won't be your problem, but slowly everything falls apart without care.

Last in a trilogy of slightly folk horror murder mystery coming of age class war sort of fairytales. Excellent main protagonist and support, some lovely writing and the right amount of wryness. YA technically but a chunk cleverer than half the stuff in the adult fantasy section. Just a joy
