One of the first ads announcing the very beginning of the Syndication era. Careful research confirms Monday September 15th, 1969 as launch date for multiple stations who purchased the package from Paramount TV.

A new feature for 2026: Watermark presents a curated series of Syndication ads. Dates will cover a range from Syndication's inception on September 15th, 1969 to the late 1970's. In some cases, as with this one, dating was either inconclusive or unavailable.

UPDATE: Re: Body Casts. Conjecture: Goldin auction houses' listing mentions Shatner's travel to Spain for a film shortly after the castings. He arrived in Spain March 1967 to begin the shoot for "White Comanche". These may have been taken end of February, 1967 after last shoot day for O.A. 2-22-67.

This seems to answer our questions. Weird that Goldin auction house didn't identify the photographer.

Watermark @strlug.bsky.social · 02/01/2026
Conjecture: They were prototyping a more sophisticated Android for WALMGO that proved too expensive?, or, providing castings to a wax museum?, or,....Shatner was fed up with promo tours of county fairs, parades, etc, and wanted to send a dummy in his place?

Now that you mention it, I am making an working assumption that these are TOS era. That assumption is based primarily on Theiss' late midcentury clothing, which really says 1967-1969 to my eyes. Unfortunately, there are no Kodak edge codes on the negs that would nail it down.

We reach! I think we both spent hours re-reading TMOST and pouring over those photos. I got started in 1973.

Watermark @strlug.bsky.social · 02/01/2026
I've gotten valuable feedback from two good TOS friends indicating that I could have been clearer that I don't know what's actually going on in these photos. After reconsidering, I'm not sure I have a good read on the photographer, or whether they were prototyping the WALMGO prop, or costuming.

Watermark @strlug.bsky.social · 02/01/2026
I really appreciate your feedback. I should have more clearly indicated that I don't really know what's going on here, and was offering conjecture. At this point, I'm not even sure of the photographer.

Watermark @strlug.bsky.social · 01/01/2026
That's what I thought at first. The odd thing is Theiss appears in all of the negs, directing the plastering of Shatner's legs and chest. If they were creating the prop for WALMGO, it seems like Irving Feinberg would be in charge.

A first draft, issued before the heavy revision process took place. It wasn't unusual for dozens of scenes to get the axe before the revised final draft stage.
