Made even weirder by this meeting being iirc the one time we ever see him wearing pants

Strix @strixexmachina.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

Like, even aside from the class politics part of it, Ameliance well-intendedly trying to mom probably-older-than-her Strix is kind of excruciating.

Strix @strixexmachina.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

Strix is older than most of the main cast and her relationship with her family of origin is fairly strained, so when this happens, it’s almost always Extremely Awkward.

Strix @strixexmachina.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

Finished Palworld’s story/map, time to put that aside for a bit. The cast of Dressmaker is fun enough that the twee Victoriana vibe (I like BB but I don’t want to be her) and the extent to which some of the challenges of couture sewing irl get abstracted way the heck out don’t bother me too much.

(I'm an ND nerd, so are all of my friends, and Strix is composed from that basis of reference;*to me* she's likable, but I'm trying to answer the spirit of the question. Then again, for some people she's probably also the "autistic people when someone more autistic than you walks in" meme.)

040

Strix @strixexmachina.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

Strix is low-charisma and palpably weird, but self-aware enough to be conscientious re: social expectations and responsibilities. For an average person, she's probably tolerable but not readily likable.

Definitely not dressing to impress anyone in particular. Of course not. But she understands if someone's eyes were to linger a bit too long... 😌 (DID MY BEST WITH HAT. MAY NOT BE PERFECT, BUT IT MAKES HER EXTRA CUTE.)

I'm keeping up with my weekly treasure maps groups, but FFXIV's otherwise on the back burner while we wait for Evercold. I'm about to wrap up the story content in Palworld. Husband also gave me Dressmaker, and it's been interesting to play with that as someone who sews irl.

🎆🏮 Moonfire Faire with the lalafell squad #ffxiv #oc-elu

Digital illustration of my Final Fantasy 14 lalafell with Tataru and Krile on either side as they stroll through a summer festival eating snacks and having fun. My lala is short with dark freckled skin, green eyes, and shoulder-length dark brown hair, dressing in shorts with a yellow crop top and long green haori. They hold a taiyaki in one hand, are being fed a spoonful of shaved ice by Krile, as a sparrow proudly holds a snack while seated ontop of their head. Krile is dressed in a pretty yellow dress with white lace trim and smiles sweetly. Tataru is dressed in a pink kimono with green underlayer, with pink flowers in her hair, and is linking arms with my lalafell on the other side and wielding a skewer of takoyaki as she points forwards with a determined expression. Fireworks and lanterns frame the lively night scene.

There is literally no piece of media in existence that is genuinely flawless, everything you enjoy is worthy of criticism, and if you truly love something, you'll also acknowledge those flaws. By doing so, you increase the chance of new things being made that are even better and address those flaws.

#xivwomenweek day 2 - a realm reborn 💠 okay, ladies, now let's get in formation - it's the OG eorzean alliance! #impxiv #ffxivart #merlwyb #kan-e-senna #nanamo

Pictured are three digital portrait sketches of the starting city-state leaders from Final Fantasy 14 - Merlwyb, Kan-E-Senna, and Nanamo. They each are sketched in their flag colors: red for Merlwyb, yellow for Kan-E-Senna, and black for Nanamo. They are also pictured in front of their respective city-state flags against a dark purple background. The on-screen text reads "The Eorzean Alliance" in Eorzean script.

Digital bust sketch of Merlwyb, a roegadyn NPC and leader of Limsa Lominsa from Final Fantasy 14. She has spiky hair that is slicked back from her face and wears a military-style jacket with metal buckles that is cut low to accentuate her bust. She looks off in the distance pensively with a stern expression.

Digital bust sketch of Kan-E-Senna, a padjal NPC and leader of Gridania from Final Fantasy 14. She has two horns atop her head, two feather-like ornaments that frame her face, and wears her hair in a woven bun above her shoulders. She is also wearing a fur-trimmed robe that is cut low to display an ornate metal necklace laid upon her décolletage. She smiles as she looks calmly to the right.

Digital bust sketch of Nanamo ul Namo, a lalafell NPC and leader of Ul'dah from Final Fantasy 14. She wears her hair in fluffy pigtails with a jeweled tiara atop her head. She is also wearing attire adorned with ruffles, gems, and details that suit her regal status. She smiles demurely as he gazes to the left.

She tends to be attracted to other hyper-competent people who gravitate to positions of responsibility, so "too busy" as a barrier to things getting too complicated or serious was mutual in almost every case.

120

Strix @strixexmachina.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

For most of Strix's life "too busy" was a smokescreen for belief that she was fundamentally unlikable and lack of energy (some of which was from overwork) to test that empirically. She had a handful of brief, fairly superficial engagements with other academics around Ul'dah.

33 years ago today, the Stranger stepped onto the dock of Myst Island for the first time. We can still hear the water splashing against the pilings.

The dock of Myst Island from the original version of the game. A wooden dock ends at a spiral staircase that leads up to giant gears on a hillside. A ship is sunk in the water on the right, and parts of buildings are visible on the left.

Huge oversimplification but the prevailing mood of a lot of Viking Norse literature is fatalism re: death, so it will be extremely funny if this keeps happening

050

Strix @strixexmachina.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Not to borrow trouble, but yeah I *am* gonna wonder out loud about whether this is gonna be the fourth consecutive mainline expansion where the actual real story is, we have to insist that some guy accept that grief and loss are a normal part of life

120

Strix @strixexmachina.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

LRT my guess for Halmarut's real name is Laufey or Angrboda, (or Eir, Skadi, etc) but Freya's been the more popular guess by a lot

Another BSkyer made the case that FFXIV does reconciliation one of three ways: 1. We kill One Guy then everything is fine 2. Power of Friendship and Understanding 2.5 We don't actually address it, they just start hanging out with the protags like nothing happened 3. Fordola And yeah, pretty much

"She has a necklace wrought by dwarves, won at dear personal cost." Strix cuts her eyes down at the bauble of foil, wire, and glass bits from the Wandering Stairs back bar, a souvenir from drunksitting an unusually sloshy Giott "That's technically correct, I guess."

Strix @strixexmachina.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Don't know where and how far Evercold's gonna go with the Viking Norse theming, but I just made myself chuckle thinking about how people with that preexisting cultural pov might interpret a stave-wielding sorceror-alchemist all in yellow/gold tones with a half-ton magic sow as a familiar.

The source IP barely acknowledges the existence of women over Christmas cake age, I’m not thinking fandom’s likely to do better. Especially when the woman in question is a low-charisma weirdo.

Strix @strixexmachina.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Variations on this question always feel like cheating. Strix is named for/modeled after Athene-genus owls, especially the Burrowing Owl.

A brown and white banded burrowing owl stands silhouetted against a background of sandy soil

Strix, a lalafell woman with tan skin, tawny hair in pinned up braids and gold eyes stands on a colorful mosaic floor.
