If art output from me has slowed down a bit its cause Ive been working hard on a software project to assist artists with commission workflows. Its coming along nicely but I’ve pivoted from streamlit to Vue.js. Its very ambitious.

Ok this is really bothering me, its a single player game with no multiplayer, no score mode, no photo mode, tons of re-used content from Reach (a 10+ year old game) despite claims of being built from the ground up, 2 years of development with access to the code base. And this is the result. What?!

There are games where a characters mobility is enabled by a mech or suit. I recall the Surge did that where you start in a wheelchair and get an exoskeleton. Elliana from Rivals of Aether is a snake with a mech suit. And then theres Bently in Sly 3 who moves around in a wheel chair.

When I play a modern FPS without lefty gun models, it genuinely feels like I am holding a gun with my right hand and pointing when're to aim with my left hand, and it's always weird. Then I play Remnant 2 which being a third person game lets you flip the camera position and it's an improvement.

Developer may cry foul about 'fairness' but then what about Sports? In a game of tennis you will find a multitude of players of varying handedness, but apparently video-games are the exception? This wasn't an issue in Counter Strike 1.6 which had lefty/righty options so why is it a problem now?

I am ALWAYS taken out of my sense of immersion when I play a game like Dark Souls in a tight corridor and I bang my sword against the wall on my right when I should have been able to swing with my left just fine.

Going back to the lefty/righty point though, I've always been frustrated. It should be possible to just flip a character model but I've seen some weird arguments why that isn't an option.

In addition, not only is that easier to implement without breaking immersion, it also is grammatically and syntactically easier to work with across languages than using he/she/it/they etc.

Using gender representation in RPGs as an example, it's not that challenging to separate a character model appearance from their gender/pronouns. And plenty of RPGs have found clever work arounds in dialogue to referencing the MC like 'chosen one' or 'pathfinder' etc.

It's not selfish or narcissistic to want/desire representation in a video game. It's harmless to request or ask. Personally I'm always over the moon when a game lets me be left handed and I always am disappointed when it's basically yoinked. I was gutted when Link became right handed for example.

So with this all said, given that God gave us the liberty to think for ourselves and free will; I find it pretty awful that people would choose NOT to think and stay will-fully ignorant. Personally I find wilful ignorance and a lack of curiosity one of the most repulsive traits in a person.

When I go to church, rather than blindly listening as a form of ritual, I have found it good practice to actually think about what is said and reflect in the moment. Perhaps I will inch one step closer to being a better person.
