Heading back North after a lovely couple of days spent at the Women in World-Literature conference (@womeninworld-lit.bsky.social) at the University of Warwick. Presented a fragment of a current thesis chapter and chaired a fantastic panel all about speculative fiction!

My recent scholarly publication is now live! This piece reviews The Edinburgh Companion to Globalgothic edited by Rebecca Duncan. It was a pleasure to read the book & share my thoughts on such an important piece of work. You can read the issue in its entirety here gothicnaturejournal.com/issue-v/

Absolute joy at finding my first ever ammonite fossil on the beach today! I’ve dreamt of finding one for years and this is such a perfect specimen. Then went on to spot my first ever yellow sea glass. Powerful moments of glimmer when things have felt bleak ✨

This year, I had a book chapter published titled ‘Death as the Eye of the Storm’ in the collection ‘Death in the 21st-Century: A Companion’ edited by Katarzyna Bronk-Bacon and Simon Bacon.

A fantastic, 5-star read! In the top 3 books I’ve read this year. Absolutely devoured The Ghost Woods by C.J. Cooke 🖤 A potential contender for my PhD thesis as well… I’ll certainly need to pick up a paperback edition eventually too 🤔
A Kobo Aura e-reader displaying a black and white cover of the book, The Ghost Woods by C.J. Cooke. The Kobo device is resting on a fabric sleeve case patterned with blue clouds and white mushrooms with metallic accents made by Paper&Word. There is a roaring fire in the background with dimmed, soft lighting, which creates a cosy ambience.

I’ve had this device for a decade and just discovered I can have a personalised screensaver, which actually works as a screensaver (unlike Kindle). I’ll definitely be doing this for my Elipsa 2E as well. Kobo for life! 📚
A Kobo Aura (2013) e-reader with a screensaver that has a white outlined doodle of a girl sitting on an open book with flowers coming from the centre; the girl is leaning her arms on an oversized coffee cup. Above and below this image are the words “Kristy’s Kobo”. The background of the screensaver is black.

I am beyond thrilled to announce that I have been offered a fully-funded PhD studentship to pursue my own research project at the University of Westminster beginning in January 2024! 🥂 🎉 #wearewestminster💛
Three books on PhD studies including “Planning Your PhD”, “Managing Your Mental Health During Your PhD”, and “Authoring A PhD”. These are displayed next to a wild flower bouquet built from LEGO bricks.
