Ross explains how the EU Kids Act is cover for making private servers without age verification illegal, and expanding surveillance under the guise of protecting kids. Here's how to fight back: - Spread the word and this video far and wide! Let the public know what's happening! ...

The proposal mentions this applying to operating systems multiple times, but it's unclear if it's referring to all operating systems, or only operating systems with age verification. We've had lawyers look through this and there's no consensus Hence why it's in the MIGHT section and not DEFINETLY

#StopKillingGames is proud to announce that we are working with Senator John Kane of the Pennsylvania State Senate, on the Protect Our Games (POG) Act in Pennsylvania
Protect Our Games Act memo announcement by John Kane of the Pennsylvania State Senate, describing: video game manufacturers would be required to give customers at least 60 days' notice before ending access to the game or changing its features.

Additionally, the companies would also be required to provide customers with at least one of the following options:

The ability to use the video game offline
A patch to continue using the game online independent of the company's online gaming services
A refund in an amount equal to the highest price of the digital game offered by the digital game operator within the 12 months before the digital game operator ceases providing services for the ordinary use of the digital game. The refund amount cannot fall below 25% of the initial sale price of the game
Additionally, the bill would include exemptions for subscription-based services where access to games lasts only for the duration of the subscription.

If enacted, the bill would be enforced by the Pennsylvania Attorney General and the district attorneys.

You know where the power lies Which side are you on?
A comparison of messages between Stop Killing Games and the European Commission: Stop Killing Games wants to play the games they paid for, the Commission wants you to submit your face or ID to play private Minecraft servers with your friends or else you're breaking the law. At the bottom, text reads "Which Message will Resonate with Voters?"

#StopKillingGames relies on creators spreading the word and giving commentary on us like @f4mi.bsky.social, @conkerax.bsky.social, Ross Scott, and many others. We would not be here without them. Treating them as second-class voices under whoever someone else deems “trusted” is deeply concerning.

This is a grim moment for the gaming community. Sony PlayStation announced today that it will cease all physical games production in 2028. This will essentially erase legal game preservation and ownership on their platform. The ESA lied to lawmakers to bring down the POG Act ...

So, we’re quadrupling down on these statements now? Telling California Senate lawmakers that community servers are illegal and "the black market of video games" is certainly a choice. But sure, as we all know, it was likely just a misunderstanding. www.pcgamer.com/gaming-indus...
The ESA has sent another statement for what it calls "additional clarity". Here are the key differences:

- Narrowing the scope of what private servers cause trouble, specifically, ones that "host or distribute copyrighted game content."
- A "without authorization" was snuck in there, too.
- "While publishers may take different approaches," was added to the statement that publishers "reserve the right to exercise their rights against them".

ESA updated their statement to games media, a third time after saying community servers are "the black market of video games", "illegal", and "piracy" to the California State Senate. They tripled down, updated their statement, and caused a bill to fail We wonder: What will be the consequences?

Congratulations ESA, you’ve won this round and handed us the legitimacy boost of the century by doubling down. Let's not forget that Minecraft's EULA explicitly allows for private servers, and that there is a popup warning when you try to play multiplayer saying Mojang/Microsoft is not liable

The Entertainment Software Association doubled down on community servers being illegal. In a statement to @pcgamer.com, ESA rep wrote: "Private servers infringe on the intellectual property (IP) rights of game publishers. Publishers reserve the right to exercise their rights against them."

We see that, but we're not asking for games to be kept running indefinitely whatsoever. Publishers can shut down games whenever, but they must do so responsibly in a way that doesn't take back rights they've sold to their customers. How that happens is up to the publisher. Several games have done so
