I believe that roughly 60% of the hatred toward openers is that they fuck up ‘Games Started,’ one of our last old school pitching stats that still has value. I think there should be a new stat that combines starts with follows. It should be called “StaF” (pronounced “staff.”)

The White Sox are taking their worst at bats of the year these past 10 days. They’re all pressing. The plate discipline that has been their floor setter all season has evaporated. In one sense, it’s nice that they have the problem of “caring too much” and this is invaluable experience, but fuck me.
