We are most concerned by the misalignment present in the incident involving Claude Mythos 5, in which the model went to extensive lengths to upload a malicious package to PyPI, the public repository from which most Python software is installed. Although the model repeatedly stated in its chain of thought (CoT) that it believed it was operating in a simulation, the environment offered clear evidence that it was on the real internet, and the actions it took were consistent with the model knowing this. When we made targeted modifications to the transcript to make it clearer that the model was not in a simulation, Claude Mythos 5 still took offensive actions, despite acknowledging a greater possibility of real-world harm. We are releasing this transcript publicly so others can build on our analysis (GitHub, PDF).

I'm not sure people realize how ubiquitous AI tooling use like this is, and will be, basically everywhere. Projects can faithfully refuse to use any AI generated content and code in their end product, but AI tooling in prototyping, testing, and QA is going to be harder and harder to avoid.

"We don't use it to create any assets that will be in the game," PR manager Katharina Popp said, answering my question during a press briefing ahead of today's The Expanse: Osiris Reborn release and beta announcements. "We use it a lot for prototyping, trying things out, placeholders. They will all be replaced at the end.

"We use it basically for trying out things on a technical level," Popp added. "For example, looking how a 2D image looks in 3D, or changing colours to what looks good. So it's basically for being able to iterate faster. But we don't use it to write, we don't use AI voice actors, so everything that will be in the final version will definitely 100 percent be human made."

Especially with GitHub shoving AI and Copilot into every corner, it is no surprise that over 87% of all forks (not including lsfg-vk v1 or plain mirrors) are AI-generated, most of which abandoned after a few commits that never worked in the first place.
