iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Do you remember any of your earliest recordings in particular?

That's a really great way to look at it. I think not too long ago I went through a similar shift in mindset. I was stuck in only having motivation to record sounds for my libraries that I sell. It took having more freelance post work to realize that way of recording wasn't the most effective!

It's so great you're reinforcing that! I have very old phone recordings I use every now and then as well. I'm sure you're teaching great metadata as well 😀 Have to be able to find the old recordings, after all!

I've found myself frequently using my earliest recordings for a current project. ~16 years ago my mom got me a Zoom H4n and the first stuff I recorded was metal vent pipe scrapes. It's amazing how clearly I remember recording them and how useful they still are. Record stuff! You won't regret it :D

I came across a pile driver a long time ago and recorded it. Then I forgot I recorded it. Then I remembered. Now you can have my pile driver sound effects as long as you promise to use them in something cool. sto.sh/2026/03/28/p...

Just released a new #soundeffectslibrary I think you'll find very useful! Traffic Jam is a collection of angry & desperate honking sounds in massive urban gridlock. 🚗🚛🚕🛻 Each location comes with different energy levels of rage and useful embedded markers 🤠 collectedtransients.com/product/traf...

Built a fast way to name 1,000,000,000 markers efficiently. This is for my particular case of preexisting markers but I'm sure it could be adapted for adding named markers during playback as well. #reaper #streamdeck

2025 was a trying year for the post sound industry. It was also a trying year for this Euphonix MC Mix. 🎚️ I had a little too much fun writing the library description on this one. Grab for FREE for a limited time: collectedtransients.com/product/fade... #sounddesign #soundeffects

Going through ~14 hours of Chicago traffic jam recording. So far this truck is the winner. 24 seconds of uninterrupted rage honk. The result of closing four bridges, half of an expressway, and bringing the feeder ramp down to one lane - all at once. Wonderful construction planning. Great honks 😄

Pretty wild Saturday night going on over here: youtu.be/u_MDbX63uhk?... Say what you will about CFL bulbs... but at least they make noise when they flicker!

Remember RSS readers? I was inspired a while back by @techconnectify.bsky.social to limit my own algorithm-based feeds. Easy enough on YouTube, but recently remembered I can "subscribe" to my favorite News/Blogs/Anything with RSS! Any favorite RSS readers? Currently using "Feeder" on Android.

Nice. My favorite pattern is the "Wail" tone. youtu.be/95q6rx0B3PQ?... (3:30ish) There are whole communities out there that map and catalog all these if you look around on the internet. I'm sure someone has an NZ map somewhere!

That bird can hold a note too!

It's an emergency warning siren. For any kind of emergency but typically reserved for tornadoes around here. They do tests once a month!

That's a challenge! Near impossible in a big city like Chicago. If there could just be ONE testing day where it's bone chilling cold and no one in the city is out driving 😆. Cool that they test that one weekly! More chances to get a clean wide perspective. Does NZ do a constant tone like this one?

Stosh Tuszynski @sto.sh · 02/09/2025

This siren bested me last time when I recorded it. Actually I bested myself by somehow accidentally recording at 48khz. But NOT TODAY. Today I came 192kHz/32bit ready to both capture ultrasonics and not worry about gain. #fieldrecording #warningsiren #soundeffects

Wow! Yeah gotta remember to set something up next year! Would be very cool to capture that.

It took a good bit of RX to quiet down the city, but mainly it helps being up on a roof! Makes car bys and all that kind of stuff way easier to manage.

Great sound, minus the view for #chicagoairandwatershow Day II I captured some really great stuff yesterday. Hope today is the same! Will be sharing some of these recordings later on for free in a blog post or something. SMASH THAT FOLLOW BUTTON.

Excited to see what I capture this year! 🛩️ To be fair I'm only going stereo this time, but same location. Away from all those noisy people who carelessly verbalize their amazement at a military jet flying directly over their heads 😆 #fieldrecording #chicagoairandwatershow

I made a pitch flattener VST3/AU, great for turning dopplered sirens, screams, or animal cries into pitch-locked, high-energy sci-fi source. Weird, glitchy, artefacty fun. Free AU/VST3 (Mac/Win). Uses Rubber Band + FFT. 👉 github.com/samueljustic...

I'm pumped to try this out on a bunch of stuff it wasn't intended for haha. Good on you for building and sharing something like this!

Re-watched The Neverending Story for the first time since childhood and it still hits! Had no idea Giorgio Moroder composed the score until now, but it makes complete sense. Also first time hearing it in surround, which was nice! Assuming it was a remaster... whoever did it wasn't afraid to use lfe!

Sometimes, I can get stuck in a very regimented/self limiting mindset while recording #soundeffects. A #fieldrecording project with @atlassound.bsky.social helped break me out of that recently. Also, becoming a guy who carries a bag around... I now always have a recorder on me, which has helped!

Embracing “Unwanted Noise” in Field Recording – Stosh Tuszynski

Stosh Tuszynski @sto.sh · 29/05/2025

I wrote a little tool a while back to automatically create/name a folder/subfolder structure for my work's post production projects, but it also works for field recording sessions along with a million other things, so I thought I'd share it! Sorry for all the blurring 😆 More in video description!
