The President’s second encounter with Andreas Vesalius’ De Humani Corporis Fabrica came during a recent trip to Boston, where she was treated to a tour of the Houghton Library, with Prof Robert Darnton, University Librarian Emeritus at Harvard and an Honorary Fellow of St John’s.

Nearly 400 years ago, St John’s threw a sumptuous feast for King Charles I and the royal court to celebrate the opening of Canterbury Quad. Astonishingly, the food and entertainment cost nearly half as much again as the entire building project!
