Remember the qMRLab umbrellas at the 2023 MRathon Highlights party? We are taking them out of storage for an exciting announcement that will bring qMRI under one umbrella. Stay tuned!

Here is the entire post! qantarot.substack.com/p/about-that... I hope my students will do something equally silly for their assignment. After all, there is no better way to get excited by science than by finding out how badly Hollywood gets it wrong. n/n

About that MRI scene in Final Destination
What if I could turn pop culture’s fascination with MRI into a teaching moment for my MRI class?

No MRI scene stretches credulity quite like the one in Final Destination Bloodlines, in which the characters are subjected to an increasingly absurd Rube Goldberg chain of MRI-related mishaps that bear little resemblance to how an MRI scanner actually works. 4/n www.youtube.com/watch?v=mteT...

This week my students’ assignment is to choose a pop culture artifact featuring magnetic resonance imaging and to explain the physics behind it. 3/n

From CT scans being confused for MRI, to metallic objects flying across hospital hallways, entertainment media routinely override real physics for dramatic effect. So I thought to myself, what if I could turn pop culture’s fascination with MRI into a teaching moment for my MRI class this year? 2/n

About that MRI scene in Final Destination: Bloodlines For years I have been documenting the depiction of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in pop culture. The technology seems to fascinate the public, but it is often portrayed with errors, particularly when it comes to the underlying physics. 1/n

With this format reproducibility and data/code reuse are just a click away, and we have five wired papers in the pipeline demonstrating the power of this novel approach. Wired papers, coming soon to an Evidence instance near you!

Wired papers make it possible to freeze the "state" of a dashboard, so that each figure in the paper is a real-time update of the dashboard based on reader/reviewer interaction.

So here I am at the annual meeting in Cape Town, with the difficult task of being both supportive and critical of existing MRI outreach efforts. In preparation for this task, I spent the past 6 months talking to many community members. and conducting an unofficial survey forms.gle/Q2sUg3LJhwiz...

Hello Cape Town! After the first two volumes of my ISMRM blues series, which were critical of the society, I expected silence from the ISMRM. Instead, they showed class by inviting me to speak on the very topic that drew the most attention in my critique: bringing MRI to developing countries. 1/n

I moderated a fun debate at the @esmrmb.bsky.social microstructure workshop today. We asked the panelists to argue for and against the clinical potential of qMRI. Inspired by the Munk debates, we polled the audience before and after the discussion. It appears the pessimists won by a small margin:)
