Saddened today to learn of the death of my former broadcasting colleague Triona Holden, aged just 67. A whirlwind of energy and talent, she was the youngest presenter of the BBC Radio 4 Today and PM programmes in the 1980s, before illness forced her to retire at 39. R.I.P. Triona

Not posted pictures of our beautiful village church with its ruined nave for quite some time. So here it is, from my walk this morning. It’s seen so much history, including sheltering King Richard lll and his officers on the eve of the Battle of Bosworth, where he died, in 1485.

All these bright young things attacking pensioners need to know they didn’t originate the vileness. When I was hosting a radio phone-in show in 1983, a caller rang in saying pensioners were parasites. We had the same debate then, that we’re having now.
