You're likely to encounter this soon enough - apparently some individuals trying to make a point are saying that NYC is spending $368 million on approximately 4500 homeless people. That gets them to a figure of $81,000 each. Here's the actual report these hype articles are poaching data from
You're likely to encounter this soon enough - apparently some individuals trying to make a point are saying that NYC is spending $368 million on approximately 4500 homeless people. That gets them to a figure of $81,000 each.

Except for - math...

There are two true statements in the logic:
- NYC spent $368 million providing sheltering services in 2025.
- There are some estimated 4500 people that DESPITE the city's efforts REMAIN unsheltered.

Two tidbits that may not have made the articles you might read:
- Apparently NYC is the sole municipality in the country that is legally MANDATED to provide emergency shelter to anyone who seeks it.
- The total volume of people getting shelter in NYC is on the order of 140,000, and the city provides it for about 97% of them.

You see - that $368 million is to solve the ENTIRE problem, and it happens to be that even though they could be housed someplace, some 4500 people choose to be unhoused.

It doesn't make sense to divide $368m by 4500 - because that's the part of the problem that remains to be solved. It really makes the most sense to divide $368m by 140,000 - the size of the unhoused population that NYC is providing temporary housing for - and that comes out to $2629 per person per year - that actually sounds like a really great job that is being done...

Here's the actual report all of these hype articles are poaching data from:

It appears Kansas (yup, the whole state) goes to the head of the list. I will note that officially Kansas City Missouri is NOT part of Kansas. I presume they are taking pride in that fact at this moment...

Maybe you can't quite tell what happened in the heat of the video on the 2nd Execution of a US citizen by govt forces, but let this stand alone. The guy who had intervened when a woman was pushed, who had been helping direct traffic, was shot in the back of the head while he was on hands and knees.
Man on hands and knees being shot in the back of his head.

If you ever thought russia was winning in Ukraine, this graphic should help you see what's really going on... Russia has 1.2 million in casualties, lost all tanks, APCs, and motorized artillery. The Ukrainians are nice to the horses they find - drone operators try kill only the russians...
Graph - russian monthly gains in Ukraine showing a large early gain, Ukrainian gains in two large events, and essentially no change since.

It seems quite extraordinary that "Europe" would feel it necessary to issue this statement... I don't disagree with them for making it, just wow...

I am partial to idiots being shown as they are. Interestingly the reader comments didn't feel like adding "plus two russian submarines" or "by a country that has no large naval ships of their own" to twist the knife...

Well, it appears Russia has tipped the counter over and suffered some 1 Million Casualties in their 3-day war (that is currently running over 3 years.... ). Don't accept statements that Russia is in any way 'winning', they aren't.

Going to point out two things...

While the markets crashed, the orange guy was golfing.

And you know how every manufacturer uses this nifty new fangled lean inventory method - to reduce cost by only having what they need on hand and a steady stream of fresh inventory "on the way"?

It absolutely reduces costs in that flat world global economy.

It also means that there is no slough inventory or time. All of those globally supplied resources and parts are almost immediately going to be higher priced because of the tariffs.

If you've heard about how the Smoot–Hawley Tariff Act worsened the great depression in 1930 - eight months after the market crashed in 1929, think how these will affect things now.

Some 20 years ago I was afforded the opportunity to perform in Annie and took in the people's anger towards Herbert Hoover as expressed in the song "We'd Like To Thank You".

If we're replaying the global pandemic and depression from a hundred years ago, it does suggest that the orange guy is the next Hoover (in addition to being a convicted criminal, digital rapist, grifter, and all over louse).

Anyway, back to today's needs...
