Being literally the boundary between two different City Council Districts probably doesn't help either...

I've never seen Vandermark 5 spelled with a V instead of the Arabic numeral "5" before.

my hunch is that in NY-8, the most favorable terrain for Jeffries is Mill Basin, which is 64% white and home to many moderate and conservative Democrats.

At the very least, you can’t mobilize voters without trying For years, the strategy was to win with attacks that kept turnout down, and that clearly no longer works

Calvino was a huge influence on my thinking because he was my first exposure to everything from magical realism to metafiction. I admire how he skillfully assimilated so many threads into a style that was obviously his own.

I'm curious why they've chosen to keep the name Sleep, as I don't think a new name would not have cost them fans.

Jalen Brunson and Karl Anthony Towns might disagree with this person, along with many of the 8 million Knicks fans in New York.

Still alive: Ronald Isley, Booker T Jones, Tommy Roe, Carole King, Barbara Lynn, Smokey Robinson, Billy Swan, Joe Melson, Brian Holland, Jeff Barry, Berry Gordy III, Janie Bradford, ... — a couple of these even made the NYT list!

As it's trivially easy to look up songwriters from 1650 Broadway and see which are still alive, and not just assume that they're all dead, I stick with my take that this generation of songwriters (apart from Carole King, who went on to have a separate legacy) no longer gets its due.

Steve Silverstein @stevesilverst.bsky.social · 28/04/2026

His 60s hits still included Stand By Me, On Broadway, Bossa Nova Baby, Little Egypt, Saved, Shoppin' for Clothes, and more — hardly just a 50s songwriter!

If there's no one over 90, then could Mike Stoller's omission be a possible sign of bias against nonagenarians?

Steve Silverstein @stevesilverst.bsky.social · 28/04/2026

Mike Stoller is also still alive, with an immeasurable influence.

Dan Penn feels like a big omission, given his influential genre-crossing, huge hits, and insane talent. I'll also endorse Toni Wine, with Groovy Kind of Love, Only to Other People, Candida, Black Pearl, and more.

Have you tried a Pultec MEQ simulation for the 1K boost? It also does that really well. An API 550 is probably a bit more "rock" than you're looking for. And I'm not sure what other options you might have access to.

the low-frequency smear of a 1073 is such a specific and recognizable sound. I'm much more drawn to Neve-ish gear for guitars, where the subtly-overdriven 2k peak can really shine.
