There are many ways to take a study like this but, generally speaking, It suggests that “small but significant” findings in the social sciences are not useful, whether it be horoscopes, behavioral genetics or anything else.

Granted, I’m just a watch the World Cup every 4 years guy, but this 3rd place game suggests teams play way too deliberately conservative. Whatever you say about France’s effort level, they are still a better team than most of the teams that kept it a 2 to 1 game (France scores as I write this).

Quite annoyed by ESPN incorporating professional wrestling into their sports news. Nothing against it, but I just don’t think it should be included with regular sports, unless we are operating under the assumption that predetermined outcomes are okay in sports (sorry if you didn’t know, ha ha).

Suggestion (obviously from an American): instead of “extra time,” simply stop the clock during the game, so that the game always ends at the 90 minute mark.

These kinds of secret societies shape history and power in profound ways and are protected from discourse by accusations of conspiratorial thinking. There is a whole history of this country that sits behind the history we learn about in school and through the media.

I know behavioral genetics proponents try to disavow this kind of garbage, but this is exactly the problem with continuing to pump up what is essentially a null field. It unconsciously justifies cruelty, wars and genocide, among other problems. www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-...

I’m making a bit of a joke, but it’s worth discussing some broader issues, here. The first is that “we” in this sense, points to an ideology. I’ve taken a lot of ridicule from what would be considered leaders in the fields of behavioral genetics and my own field of psychiatry for questioning…. 1/

🧬 Let’s do a GWAS on zip code. Say, the first two digits are 70 (my choice). You will likely get some correlations if the sample is large enough. What percentage of the variance explained will you get for the SNPs for “70” zip code? Say it’s 10% even with your PCA’s. Is “70” zip code genetic? Now…

One of the reasons I abhor the largely null field of behavioral genetics is this kind of reckless stupidity from someone well known in the field. BG is bad science with an inevitable and harmful endpoint. They haven’t found a thing in 65 years. Let it die.
