Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 30/01/2026As someone who works in this space, I was always told that 'good enough was never good enough'. The people pumping out AI slop are completely trying to shift that narrative to 'you'll like what we tell you to like' I knew things were bad, but this is grim, grim reading. 49231

Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 27/01/2026100% agree. It's the assumption that people don't have agency. Wild to me 110

Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 27/01/2026A couple of months ago I went to the first parents association meeting of my kids new school. 27 women and me. I was a little stunned 'cause in the last school the dads were quite involved but really I shouldn't have been 010
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 21/01/2026On my way to Rascals ahead of my Craicademia talk. Have suddenly forgotten how to speak 010
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 21/01/2026This minds me of a bit I had where friends would post pictures of themselves in front of famous world landmarks (eiffel tower, grand canyon, etc) and I'd comment underneath 'where's that?' 020
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 20/01/2026looking at pictures from 2015 and the last time I was beardless and my number one thought is that I should have spent more money on a phone with a decent camera. every picture looks like it was taken with a potato. underwater 000

Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 19/01/2026I’m speaking at Craicademia on Wednesday night (think Ted talk but more craic). Gonna be discussing living with Trigeminal Neuralgia, one of the world’s most painful medical conditions. Come along and throw tomatoes (just not at my face) www.eventbrite.ie/e/craicademi...eventbrite.ieCraicademiaDublin’s newest night where big ideas meet great craic. Ted-style talks but with an Irish twist, less PowerPoint and more personality. 2123

Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 22/01/2025So here’s my take. We priced working class people out of journalism with the prevalence of unpaid internships. And the fee-paying school kids who replaced them are the most gullible people imaginable. Cause if you don’t think this was a nazi salute, I dunno what to tell you 5378

Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 15/01/2025interestingly, the Programme for Government doesn't seems to include anything about stopping the shrinkflation that affected selection boxes so heavily last Christmas. Truly a missed opportunity 120
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 13/01/2025This is a really hard read. Fair play to those women for going public. I was a huge fan of Gaiman's work when I was younger. But he belongs firmly in the bin. 000
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 08/01/2025My trigeminal neuralgia has been giving me awful gip recently. But the cold spell makes such a difference in terms of keeping the worst of the pain away. I know it's been really hard for some people, but the difference I feel being outdoors in this weather. Better than any drug 030
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 18/12/2024Asked a journalist pal of mine why he thought this was the case and she said it's because everyone feels the need to get a line on everything. So have something to lead the next bulletin or to run on the website. It makes sense from a 'content' pov, but it's frustrating as a listener 010
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 18/12/2024There's this really awful thing creeping into broadcast interviews more and more, where the interviewer is so busy thinking about their next question it sometimes feels like they're not actively listening to what's being said so stuff goes unchallenged. 110
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 18/12/2024Timmy Dooley on Morning Ireland today said three times, unchallenged, that the Irish people had given FF/FG a 'significant majority' They don't have *a* majority which is why they're having to make deals with the likes of Verona Murphy in the first place, never mind a significant one 162
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 13/12/2024All bloods and CT angiogram normal. I'm heart and prostate healthy at least. Can't speak for the rest of me 030

Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 10/12/2024I know dream posts are dull, but I had a dream last night that I wrote a film called Manatee. Which was identical in every way to Mannequin except, with an actual manatee in the Kim Cattrall role 110
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 10/12/2024I had a CT Angiogram as part of this last week. It's a weird feeling being told to relax when someone's about to scan your heart to see if your life is in danger. Should have the results this week. Family history would indicate something dodgy might be found, but I live in hope. 210
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 26/11/2024It's still available to buy this Christmas. obrien.ie/and-a-bang-o... And if you don't believe me that you might like it, here are some other writers who did too 😅 020
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 26/11/202435 years ago today, a young lad went out to play a game of football and his life changed forever. In 'And a bang on the ear' I wanted to not just write Phil's story in own words, but to structure it in a way that gave an insight into life with a traumatic brain injury. I think I achieved that? 170
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Ah yes, the pepole who want to protect the rich at all costs 'cause they continue to hold out hope that one day they might? It's really weird behaviour 110
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 25/11/2024There's a guy running in my constituency on the single of issue of wanting to ban Irish exemptions in school. Oh sorry, and building an air force. The man's plan is to drop an modh coinníollach on kids with dyslexia from a great height 020

Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 25/11/2024Irish people, especially when they head away, are extremely keen to pull the ladder up. I sometimes joke that's a genetic remnant from experience with the vikings. But it's sad. 130
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 25/11/2024An extremely high profile Irish celeb site that would cover him quite a bit has a solitary court report - one that is weirdly sympathetic to him - and zero coverage on their socials, for pretty much this reason. It's so cowardly. 020
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 25/11/2024I don't understand how or why people get locked into an 'I'm alright, Jack' mindset? When I didn't have much, I voted for people who I thought could build a fairer society. Now that I'm doing okay, I support those same people/parties even more. You gotta build more ladders, not pull them up 2161
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 18/11/2024I was listening to some analysis ahead of the leader's debate later that said there was no one topic that had captured the attention of the voting public yet. And how it's not housing, housing, and housing again, I'll never know So many of our issues go away if people have affordable places to live 030
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 18/11/2024GP. It’s just one of those things that so easy to put off forever but I just woke up today and did it. Hopefully nothing too serious pops up but at least I’ll know 110
Steve @steveohrourke.bsky.social · 18/11/2024I haven't been feeling particularly great of late, so I booked a full health screening for later this week, including prostate and heart and all the other things that kill men in their 40s I'm genuinely surprised at/pleased with myself though for doing it. Very unlike my usual 'be grand' attitude 2110
