Charles Edward Stuart bought the palace in 1777 living there until 1785. The Latin motto states 'Charles III, born 1720, King of Great Britain and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, 1766. 012

A rare nonjuring artefact it passed to four subsequent Bishops before use as a Templar Masonic Staff and museum exhibit. The grade II* listed Selfridges (R) next door to M&S was in the CA - but M&S (L) is in one of the gaps. Moral-keep your CA boundaries up to date. 071

Founded c1518 by the widows of those who died at Flodden, including Lord Seton’s widow. Damaged at the Reformation, and later used as a plague hospital much was taken down in 1760. 1133
