Absolutely. A bizarre appointment all round. You’ve got to wonder whether the terms of the role meant they were left scraping the bottom of the barrel.

It was an utterly dreadful appointment, one that it was blatantly obvious it was going to end badly. His coaching ‘CV’ prior to Gateshead was sparse to say the least. To appoint someone so inexperienced for what was going to be a tough job was brainless.

And so it proved. Remained quite scrappy, but the Newcastle lasses head and shoulders above Durham. 3-0 in the end. Could’ve been even more comfortable score line, truth be told. 5 wins from 5 in what is only 22 game league season. +13 GD. Looking fabulous for promotion.

Typical scrappy derby affair first half for the lasses at Durham, quality at a premium but what there was all coming from Newcastle. A goal to the good anyway, I expect the lasses to turn the screw second half and end up with a comfortable win over what has been a bogey side in recent seasons.

It was very nice to watch #England play with actual fullbacks as fullbacks tonight. Our own Lewis Hall was one of the best players on the pitch. Said it before, O’Reilly is a talented footballer but never a fullback.

What I’m saying is, it’s just not sustainable when any team that briefly burns a bit brighter in the PL will be slapped back down. It’s just dull and pointless, that’s not entertaining. But also - don’t just throw the book at City. Launch an entire library out a cannon.

Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Two things can be true: 1) financial rules that PL clubs had to adhere to & currently have to adhere to are not fit for purpose and hobble ambition. 2) Man City’s cheating was obscene and any punishment that doesn’t see them out of contention for any honours for at least a decade would be a let off

The lasses put four past the opposition again. 4-0, but was generally tighter than that suggests until the second was put in. After that it could’ve been a cricket score. The players brought in over the summer have lifted the quality by some distance. Four wins from four, they’ll take some stopping.

For all the attacking talent at #England’s disposal, drop off to the back four is a real issue. Not one of them fills me with confidence. Tuchel wants his head read if he doesn’t replace O’Reilly with Hall (if he’s fit) in future. Gave the World Champs a real game, but a for a slip could have won.

Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Guehi horror moment aside, #England have been very decent that first 45. Some lovely link up play, with Gordon featuring heavily. Been a cracking match so far. O’Reilly is a lovely footballer, but I still don’t buy him as a left back. Can forgive Quansah on the right, with the lack of options.
000
Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I hope that’s the case, but the whole thing has dragged on so long I wouldn’t be surprised to see that timescale slip.

Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
If anyone is fantasising about #NUFC getting Anderson back to toon off the City guilty verdict, just remember how long it has taken to get to this stage. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was retired by the time the appeals process runs its course and any punishment served.

They’ve got themselves into the driving seat after the first few games. Long way to go, but they’ll be clear favourites for promotion.

Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
They are far better at carving out and finishing chances this season on the evidence so far. Scoring consistently was such an issue last year, if that’s been fixed then this should be a hugely exciting season.

I wonder if some of our injury woes are in part due to physical demands of the type of football MJ wants to play. We had to some degree pivoted away from that over the past 2 seasons. Came in with only 3 weeks to implement, maybe some players are breaking down under the strain of playing catch up?

Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Phew! Naivety nearly cost #NUFC. Need to learn how to slow a game down. All a learning curve and a lesson that still results in three points is a good lesson. Thank god for a three week break, racking up the injuries.

#NUFC in excellent first half display shock! Should’ve been done and dusted, but for a great pen save it would’ve been. Please same again second half, to let them back in from here after near total domination first 45 would be a travesty.

The appointment of Cattermole was so obviously going not going to work out, particularly given the squad at his disposal, but it’s almost impressive how bad he has been.

Well, this is quite the reaction from the lads!!!! My dad is going today on my seasonticket. He’s often been a lucky charm. Guess I’ll have to stay away more often! #NUFC

www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... Putting aside the irony of Tory complaining about government cutting council funding, Wandsworth pay less than 40% council tax for an equivalent property to mine. Average wage is 50% higher in Wandsworth than where I am. It’s a joke they got away with it so long.

That’s not a great draw. Not the worst draw, just not a great one. Play like we did Monday night and no draw would be, of course. #NUFC

It wasn’t clear until post-match, but some are questioning what is being said which is silly. Gonzalez just one of those things, but at least he’ll be back after next match. Worry about the others & how long eg Elanga might be out for. You’d hope that Burn, Joelinton and Osula aren’t too far away.

Ramsey injured in the warm up. Although some seem to be reluctant to accept that. Not everything is a conspiracy. “Why have him on the bench?” - he felt thigh in the warm up. Maybe they hoped it would settle and he could still play a part, but when we went three down decided not to risk it? #NUFC

I’m certainly not writing him off, I genuinely think we’ve got a real player there. But may need eased into it. Yeah, system pretty dysfunctional, front to back tonight.

Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
Could really use BDB in that back line right now. Botman had improved of late, but wobbly again tonight. Elanga may be out for a while. Toure on the left, Barnes on the right? Baz looked bright when he came on. Whatever the team, they need to bounce back on Sat. #NUFC

Well, that was absolutely rotten. Some hard thinking needed from MJ over the next few days. Will be no Nico on Saturday as that’s a concussion. Steur and Miley in the middle appears it would be an error for now. MFP hugely disappointing, back to the bench you’d think. #NUFC

Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
The looseness that #NUFC got away with the last few games was right royally punished tonight. Misfortune on some of the goals, but they enabled that misfortune. Midfield wide open after Nico off. Barely able to get any positive moves going in an attacking sense. Back to the drawing board for MJ.

Mind, the support from the #NUFC fans in the away end has been quality. 4 down and still singing away.

A flukey goal to start things off, but fallen apart since then. Needed to get to half time just two-down to stand a chance, but the game has well and truly gone now. Second half just about trying to not get humiliated now. Sigh. #NUFC

Got a horrible feeling we might come unstuck tonight. Hope I’m wrong. If we do, the it’s important to remember that progress is not linear and this is a young group learning as they go. Looking forward to see Fernandez-Pardo start. Think we’ve got a star there. #NUFC

Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
The lasses make it two wins out of two. A hard fought, but deserved 1-0 win. Hearts in mouths when Bristol City were denied a stoppage time equaliser due to offside. The final ball wasn’t quite there at times tonight, but there’s definitely an improvement in attacking incisiveness this season so far
000
Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Not an inspiring performance, but got it over the line. Lack of cutting edge from #NUFC gave a pretty poor Millwall side a chance. Not sure what the droning noise was about, like ‘Geordie Vuvuzela’ chant if you removed any humour. If I was a player I wouldn’t have found it particularly intimidating.
000
Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Flat 1st half again, probably means better second half. Dominated possession, but created little & let them come into it. Millwall are not a good side, so there can be no excuses from #NUFC at the end of the tie if they don’t put them away. We REALLY lack anyone who can take a decent set piece.
010
Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
That’s a very strong #NUFC side, with options from the bench. Makes sense, no Europe and too early in the season to be fully rotating. Got 6 days until our next game. Hoping for a relatively pain free evening. Milwall had a good win at the weekend, but had a couple of heavy losses prior to that.

And 2-0 it finished. Positive start, new faces settling in well. Signs they’ll probably be in the mix for promotion.
000
Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
Good start to the season for the lasses: 2-0 up at HT. Could’ve easily been more. Against a newly promoted side and only one half of football to base this on, but they look like they’ll be much more of a goal threat this season compared to last.

I dunno, I was tapping my feet to SL2’s On a Ragga Tip at HT yesterday. Tune.😂 So not just my stand then. I also wish that the fella would hold off from playing music at FT and give us a chance to sing something ourselves, even if it is another round of ‘The referee’s a w⚓️”

Anyone else sat in the Gallowgate (top tier in particular) find that the speakers are incredibly loud this season? It’s hard to have a conversation before the match/half time. It actually hurts a bit to be honest, it’s that loud. #NUFC

Can be: shoulder touch - foul. Grab a shirt - play on, didn’t hold it for long enough. In all the years that I played football (admittedly at a significantly lower level, but 11-a-side rough games) I never accidentally got a hold of a fistful of another player’s shirt when I was challenging.

Steven Medd @stevenmedd.bsky.social · 06/09/2026
I think it’s possibly because officials are so determined not to be seen to be a homer and swayed by our crowd that they actually go the other way. Not prepared to disappear down the conspiracy theory route yet.
