Those layouts are the realm of the 2000s, with graphics too fancy for a dial-up-restricted 90s. 90s sites kept backgrounds plain with a handful of foreground images. I'll also note a hypothesis that the Apple-led trend towards minimalist GUIs in the late 2000s helped kill all this.

Board Approves 'Tom Raper Way'

The Richmond Board of Public Works and Safety has approved naming a road after a former area business leader. Our partners at Kicks 96 report "Tom Raper Way" is being added to part of Williamsburg Pike in the city. Tom Raper launched the RV business in

Richmond in 1946.Some opponents were concerned changing the name of the road would negatively impact businesses on the route.

Reducing the asymmetry of info increases bargaining power
Facebook post from Wall Street Journal:

College football kickers have long accepted their place as afterthoughts on their own rosters. They practice alone. They play a minuscule number of snaps. And for years, many weren't even on scholarships.

But in the game's era of player pay, these football outsiders are now banding together to cash in. The community of kickers is determined not to miss on college football's new gold rush.

In group chats, on social media and at the specialized camps where they hone their skills, kickers are disseminating vital information on how much they get paid. They're then using that knowledge to leverage some of the biggest raises in the sport.

For kickers, being in cahoots is yielding dramatic results. The average starting specialist-a positional grouping comprising mostly kickers and punters-in a Power Four conference is making $225,000 this season.

"When they all get together," said the father of a recent Power Four conference kicker, "it's basically a sewing circle where they all talk to each other: 'Hey, I got this,' 'I'm getting this."

"They basically self-created their own market," he added.

Love how absolutely nothing listed here as an argument against it has anything to do with the text of the Constitution. But you know that 6 of the justices would take these points seriously, which is precisely why the court needs to be reformed in this manner.
Ruling on their own institution would put the justices in an awkward position. But there are good reasons to think such a law would be unconstitutional, in that it would undermine the separation of powers and the independence of the judiciary. The history of court expansion in the 19th century provides no support for the Democrats' plan, nor does the language of the founders in their commentary on the Constitution or FDR's ill-fated experiment with court packing.

The justices may also consider the long-term implications of court packing. Once one party starts it, the other party will have every reason to follow suit, leading to further expansions of the court. A court composed of 20 or 50 or 100 members at some point would come to look like another legislative body.

We were having this same apocalyptic convo about the end of UST superiority when the 10Yr crossed 4.5% Spring last year and it eventually backed off. I am deeply worried about long-term debt sustainability, but I don't think the "wakeup call" happens until we get past 5% (would be a 20 year high)

The Times was forced to issue a correction for falsely implying Stoller was paid:
million contract that McKinsey has with NYC. And then brags about it publicly. More please.”

Some of the online adulation, like Mr. Stoller’s post, was organic. But some of it was actually part of a campaign orchestrated by CityCorrected on Sept. 4, 2026: An earlier version of this article referred imprecisely to a post by Matt Stoller about the Mamdani administration’s cancellation of a contract with McKinsey, suggesting he was among a group of influencers being fed messaging to boost the mayor’s image. Mr. Stoller was not on a list of Signal chat recipients who received outreach from the mayor’s office on the cancellation of the contract.

The private company structure was deliberately intended to bind future Venezuelan governments to the agreement and make it difficult to unwind, one of the people involved said. They consider it unlikely that a new government would expropriate a private company, the people said.

This seems like an easy question? What happens if a CEO signs off on a company's financial statements but is negligent in failing to see the underlings are committing fraud? The CEO is criminally and civilly liable.
For example, if a human business owner instructs an AI agent to grow her company's profits, and the bot goes on to commit fraud, should the human business owner who "employed" the bot be liable, or the company that initially designed and trained it?

GenAI companies will frame their products as practically human-like when selling the benefits, but it's just a widdle spreadsheet program when it goads someone into harming themselves.
Just as Microsoft isn’t held liable when a money launderer uses an Excel spreadsheet, AI companies shouldn’t be blamed when a criminal uses their technology, Sacks said.

My MAGA-soldier congressman is now supposedly anti-Flock. Whether it's sincere or pandering, it's kind of incredible how this stance is appealing across partisan lines.
Congressman Ben Cline on Facebook, about a Wired article "Flock Has a Powerful New AI Tool for Police. We Got Its Code":

"Any Virginia municipality using this technology should stop.
Americans have a constitutional right to live their lives free from unchecked government surveillance. New technology does not strip citizens of that right."
