The palms along the cinder driveway. A little worse for wear due to several storms with extreme rainfall and high winds but they will eventually grow out of it by replacing damaged fronds one by one. Life in the tropics.

Different views of a portion of the fruit tree field trial. I am growing out 43 varieties of fruit trees to see how well they do and produce at this elevation.

This one is worth watching to the end for all that like to see the ultra luxury properties of the uber rich sink below the waves. For the so-called "smartest people in the room" this result should have been a no brainer years ago by all but the brain dead. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmED...

Here are two more still shots of wild mountain boars zoomed in with my cell phone camera in the meadow behind us under cloud forest conditions. These were taken near dusk from our second floor lanai.

So it is getting close to dusk and we are currently under cloud forest conditions but I did manage to get this video of wild mountain boars in the meadow behind us. Sorry about the quality but it is a zoom in from my cell phone from our second floor lanai.

So another R/T flight over the Pacific to Honolulu for a heart procedure. 4 procedures so far but this last 1 took 4 attempts due to some difficult heart anatomy. Who knew that you could get a 200,000 mile overhaul to your heart. Many "bionic" parts now...LOL. As always, perfect weather in Honolulu.

LOL, very familiar. This is for those wanting to leave the US w/out technically leaving it. In US territories regular Medicare is accepted in all US States/US territories. But in the Pacific, all flights for highly specialized health care lead to Honolulu or the mainland. youtu.be/-M3y4D-tDi8?...

More ti plants. What's interesting is that the ti plants have a different growth habit at this elevation than in the hot coastal lowlands. Also the coloration is changing to more intense reds, burgundy+darker or more vivid greens. This is probably due to different lighting+temperatures.

The roadway back to our rainforest homestead. The Tagalog word is bundók, ie. remote interior location in the mountains. The 2nd photo gives an idea of the house+place. It is kind of like living beyond the last outpost of civilization in an old converted tropical botanical research station.

It has been a cooler than average summer with a ton of rain this year. Interestingly the Ti plants seem to like it and are doing better than they ever have. The weather seems to have really brought out the colors-particularly reds and burgundys.

Here are some more photos of some of the old growth rainforest trees on our property. The cleared portion of the property backs up to the rainforest which appears to be largely undisturbed. The cleared areas were for a former orchid farm. The majority of the property is in standing rainforest.

So here are some photos of some of the old growth rainforest trees in our section of the forest. I am guessing that these are possibly pre contact forest trees (pre contact from Europeans). In any case, they are very old, craggy and large. The ground in the forest is undisturbed natural grade.

This is our "river front" view of the drainage channel from the front door during a heavy rainfall event that is causing it to flow. Otherwise it is a large mow-able swale filled with perennial peanuts.

The drainage system catches sheet flow from the property behind us and routes it around the fruit tree grove+house+by passes the bananas. 43 inches of rain fell in 2 days during this episode.

Life on a Tropical Island. So we had a hurricane pass by the island a couple of weeks ago but we picked up the rain field. 43 inches of rain fell in 2 days. The drainage system worked perfectly to move the water through the fruit tree grove+around the house+past the bananas to the retention basin.

So I took the cull lemons that we pulled from the tree (cull=ones that are blemished or small; not premium or from thinning fruit) cut them in half in batches+juiced them using an Italian citrus press. We pulled the decent ones out prior to make zest+juice later. The last photo is the final product.

We have some weather moving in this weekend. So I decided to give the palms along the driveway a "hurricane cut" to reduce wind torque on these young palms so I reduced the number of fronds to five each by removing the oldest fronds. This is what they look like as of today.

So there are 3 types of palms clearly visible in the 1st photo: Pinanga coronata (amongst the Monstera); a Ceroxylon quindiuense (visible upper center w/in the Monstera)+Chambeyronia macrocarpa at the lower portion of the photo in the late afternoon sun. This is how you screen out the neighbors.
