Thank you C and I don’t know if you are aware, but Oli plays our collab with your lyric “There Once Was a Girl” more often than any other song of mine 🌺

Great song Mikey 👏 All good here thanks. Moved house so been busy getting it in shape - as a result the third album has been delayed but it’s taking shape in the background so hope to release some new songs very soon…

Hi C, good question - would be a great line for a lyric 😊

Sounds good K. Reminds me of Peter Green’s early solo improvisations.

As are you :-) I’m nursing a winter cold and haven’t done much this week but hope to be recovered quickly and back to my studio! Love your pictures of your snowy walks - we don;t get snow very often these days

You’re not alone Rose. We had similar thoughts 8 years ago when the whole Brexit thing happened. I see that some have been able to get out - Brandi Carlile and her family have moved here recently I believe. Stay safe.

Thank you, @ravingwolf.bsky.social and @sleradio.bsky.social. @creativereader.bsky.social is a very talented writer, and it was inspiring to set her lyrics to music.

Wise words. Do you think the loudness wars have made it difficult to swim against the tide with streaming? I know the default settings for most streamers will normalise LUFS per track. Do you think CD has more opportunity for maintaining dynamic range (if the track has range of course)?

000

Steve McGrady @stevemcgrady.bsky.social · 21/01/2025

Every track is different but, yeah, less is more is a good principle

000

Steve McGrady @stevemcgrady.bsky.social · 21/01/2025

Thanks for your list K. I didn’t know about the Street Gang - I’ll see if I can find it. I’d add Local Hero from my list - brings Scotland and Texas together and takes you back to the 1980s 5/5

000

Steve McGrady @stevemcgrady.bsky.social · 21/01/2025

Sounds good to me-maybe your a punk roots showing through ? After the count-in everything has to be louder than everything else until the final beat! 🤘

Steve McGrady @stevemcgrady.bsky.social · 20/01/2025

One of the benefits of digital audio (CD etc) compared to LP and tape was greater dynamic range but most modern recordings are less dynamic than many old analogue ones. I follow the advice from @ianshepherd.bsky.social and try to maintain the dynamics in my work, especially CD masters. Thoughts?

I’m starting 2025 in different surroundings. We’re having some work done in the room behind my home studio so I have relocated my mixing gear (minus monitors and acoustic treatment) to a bedroom for a week or two. I can make progress with headphones but looking forward to having speakers again

So, Bluesky is my only social media platform now. I’d invested a lot of time in the 3 Meta apps but, like X, the decision to make facts optional doesn’t work for me. One good thing is I don’t have to decide what to post where any longer 🙂
