Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 16/09/2026One thing Jiu-Jitsu has taught me: it’s ok to suck real bad at something if it’s fun. 000

Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 25/07/2026This is true, but there are some clear successes. Torrenting is obviously a really great technology for decentralizing file hosting and distribution. Last time I looked at it (YEARS ago), Steam actually utilized torrenting for delivering game files, which I thought was super interesting! 110
Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 25/07/2026Yes! That’s a big concern when talking about centralizing authentication. After some googling, there’s a lot of work done around decentralized auth where a user owns their own identity, and systems issue and verify credentials to that identity, but I don’t know a lot about it! 130
Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 25/07/2026But the joy of a single login to rule them all is super relatable to me. I use a password manager to get kind of that experience, but it’s not as smooth as I wish it was. 160
Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 25/07/2026This sounds like federated auth, which is pretty great. It was probably done with something like SSO using SAML back then, but it’s a bit before my time. Unfortunately, it requires a single auth provider to “federate” across systems, so I doubt something like that could work as a universal solution. 150
Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 25/07/2026I don’t mean to be a Passkey Defender, but if they were consistently implemented and worked well, they would actually be great. I wish the thing that made logging in ~relatively~ frictionless was actually easier to use. I would set up my mother in law with passkeys IMMEDIATELY if they always worked. 290

Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 01/07/2026Sometimes people on the internet get up on a high horse and say, “This jiu jitsu person wouldn’t win in a real fight!” If you think they would do the same thing in a “real fight” that they are doing in a competition with rules around a specific skill set, you’re kinda dumb. 110
Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 26/06/2026Some black coffee drinkers are so weird. Their takes would be very odd in any other context. There’s no one out there saying, “You don’t actually enjoy cereal unless you only eat dry corn flakes.” 010
Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 03/06/2026Whenever I see someone write “balled my eyes out” instead of “bawled my eyes out”, I imagine someone removing their own eyes with a melon baller. 010
Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 25/05/2026For over a decade, the consistent messaging—even from one pope to the next—has been humility, love, and dignity. Growing up Evangelical, and being told that Catholicism wasn’t “real” Christianity, I would NEVER have thought that the pope would come to be the most Christ-like global religious leader. 010
Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 24/05/2026I’m sure this is a bad idea for a zillion reasons, but what if every vote for political office was write-in only? 010

Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 21/04/2026This seems like the most inanely obvious thing on earth to me, but art IS THE PROCESS OF MAKING ART. That’s where the beauty is, not just the outcome. 010
Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 19/04/2026The worst part about being a person who works in tech and who actually wants to do good in the world is that the "leaders" of your industry don't care about that at all. (They actively do the opposite.) 010
Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 19/04/2026If anything, people advocating for prison-reform (and especially prison-abolishment) would not refer to the imprisoned population as "justice-involved" because the core of the argument is that imprisonment does not represent justice. (Especially in the US prison system.) 010

Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 21/03/2026AI “art” and videos are so bad that I’m convinced they’re just a data-mining grift. I’ve literally never seen AI-generated visual content that was good. Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 16/03/2026Ironically—if you don’t believe in the Trinity—it’s evidence of the same thing. 000
Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 16/03/2026From a Christian theology perspective, if you believe in the Trinity, this means that you implicitly believe that Biblical understanding can evolve over time. This means that your own current understanding of scripture could also evolve. 100
Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 14/03/2026Listen, the playbook is to pretend every subject and moment exist in a vacuum. Every bad thing that happens (that is, everything that happens in this administration) is an exception to the “rule” that Trump is playing 75D Chess and can do no wrong. Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 17/02/2026@43081j.com are you still actively maintaining this postcss-lit syntax? Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 23/01/2026All of this is enacted by and undergirded by messaging from the literal federal government, who is engaged in a constant stream of propaganda trying to repaint these events and convince people to ignore what they can clearly see is happening. It is not hyperbole. This is Nazi shit. 100

Steve Matney @stevematney.com · 23/01/2026We’re at the point in this country where there is an unaccountable masked force going door to door, ripping people out of their houses, and tearing apart families for the alleged misdemeanor of illegal entry into this country.
