This week I've finally managed to fulfill a long held ambition to visit Belfast, it's been worth the wait, what a wonderful city. One of the highlights has been getting to see the statue of one of my Rock & Blues guitar heroes, the late, great Rory Gallagher, recently erected outside Ulster Hall.

Don't you just love the creative instincts of some people, turning mundane ugly shit into something amusing. Taken at a train station in Dorset, England.

You just can't make this shit up, even as I shake my head in disbelief, witnessing the blackness in the heart of US politics today, I'm struck by the fact the we seem to be sliding further and further in the same direction, at a dizzying pace. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

If you want a small flavour, or should we call it a warning, about what could happen in the UK under a government lead by the Fagash Führer (Farage), just take a look at what's been happening in Portugal! Call me alarmist or paranoid if you wish. www.wsws.org/en/articles/...

I have just been watching Buy Now! on Netflix, about the negative impact of consumerism. A very thought provoking and depressing documentary, if you haven't yet watched it, I would strongly urge you to do so!

Is it really too much to hope for all of us to exist in a world of peace, tolerance, understanding and humanity? Why am I continually appalled at our capacity as a species for acts of cruelty, inhumanity and frankly utter shithead morality. For fucks sake people, please can we do better?

@aletheia225.bsky.social I'm continually appalled by the twatitude of these despicable excuses for human beings, is it too much to pin all your hopes on some form of divine intervention that results in an extreme version of natural justice?

I'm currently watching Cover-Up, on Netflix, which explores the life and work of Seymour Hersh. I would urge everyone to watch it if possible, and try to stop yourself exclaiming HOLY FUCKING SHIT! Of course a lot of this is already in the public domain, but it still leaves you exasperated!

I don't do Christmas, on account of being an atheist, however, I am a hardcore humanist, and so I would like to wish all of you, irrespective of how you identify or class yourselves, the very best that humanity can muster, I wish peace, love, kindness and understanding for all of you.

The more I hear from that reprehensible idiot Lammy, the more my thoughts turn to The Birmingham Six, The Guilford Four, and all the other numerous miscarriages of justice inflicted on innocent people, who cannot reclaim their lost time, the man clearly has the intellect of toilet paper!

To those of you who have not yet watched The White House Effect on Netflix, or wherever else it is available, I strongly urge you, in fact I beg you to watch it, but only if you think you'll be able to cope with the depression that you'll definitely feel after watching it. You have been warned.

Against my better instincts I was seduced into signing up for Apple TV, just because I wanted to watch Slow Horses, all was well until a couple of weeks ago, when things stopped working, and guess what folks, solutions and customer service is non-existent, patience depleted! ACCOUNT CANCELLED, 🖕

The best thing about a midlife crisis, when you swing hard back to your youth, and refuse to wear anything but a rock t-shirt and jeans, is that old age and experience equips you with the common sense and cunning to wear a silk vest under the t-shirt so the cold weather doesn't kill you........

Steve Mangham @stevemangham.bsky.social · 01/01/2025

I bloody hate new years day, especially when the weather is shit, especially when you've had lots of rest, and now I'm full of excess energy that I just want to expend in the most inappropriate of ways, I feel sorry for my neighbours later, or any other innocent bystander that gets in the way later!

And still @ 22:55 GMT I carp on, because we aren't given enough characters to get the point across, indulge your passion for the arts and music my friends, there is no sweeter, more life affirming way to bankrupt yourselves! Buy all the fucking books, all the vinyl, all the T-shirts and be happy!

Steve Mangham @stevemangham.bsky.social · 07/12/2024

To elaborate on my earlier post, for those who can pay attention at this time of night (GMT), Jeff Beck had a very deep impact on me, I saw him play live, which on each occasion felt very special, my point here is, for you music lovers out there, irrespective of the genre, carpe diem!

Steve Mangham @stevemangham.bsky.social · 07/12/2024

Art is profound, sounds almost ridiculous, trite even to say it aloud. I've just watched the Yardbirds documentary on Sky Arts, which features a guitar hero of mine, the late, greatest, Jeff Beck, and as we approach the first anniversary of his passing, I'm still struggling.

The being "followed" by users, who amazingly all seem to be very young ladies with barely any posts is unnerving isn't it? Are these the bots that people talk about? The profiles are really dodgy!

So as a Brit, having learned about the assassination of Brian Thompson, and reading about the really appalling treatment of people insured by his company, I can't help but ask, are there any health insurance providers in the US who operate with decency, integrity and compassion?

I have to express how much I admire the people of South Korea and Georgia right now, their determination to have their voices heard, and not let their respective governments f##k them over is an example to all who take democracy seriously.

I'm a newcomer to this platform, and I'm struck by the general mood of a lot the contributors who are clearly concerned about the future of the US, It's helpful on the one hand to get a real sense of what our US cousins are experiencing, but now I'm more depressed on your behalf than before!
