If you want to laugh at me. I saw Dame and Scoot starting and just guessed Ja was out and I look up and see Ja on the court. With Dame and Jrue.

Yaxel Lendeborg just keep making plays for the Warriors -Pick and roll, reject to drive left and finish -Dives on the floor to save the ball, Warriors get a 3 -Spaced in the corner, gets the kick and let's it fly

0172

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 8h

Well if you wanted a sequence to show how Walker Kessler can help the Lakers here you go. Warriors go P&R, Kessler in a drop. Rotations not clean on the skip but Kessler right there in the paint on the drive. On the other end catches on the short roll and finishes.

The Damian Lillard fit in Portland keeps standing out. Plenty of room for him to be him but not overtasked. Can be used off ball which opens up movement for Portland. Will still draw attention in pick and roll which opens things up.

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 8h

Pacers did sprinkle in inverted P&R with Haliburton as a screener for Siakam. No real screen, no real show. Wings clear so Siakam just drives left to turn the corner. Notice Zubac starts spaced closer to the short corner and dives on the drive.

070

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 8h

Good design from the Thunder to work to try to have actions running on both sides of the floor. Loop to the side, same rhythm as if you're running P&R. Instead ball goes to Mara. Stagger on the left side as Mara goes into a handoff with McCain on the right side.

171

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 9h

Interesting to watch the Thunder work to rotate to stay matched up in their zone. Could be a nice curveball for this type of defense.

070

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 9h

Intrigued by how the Pacers continue to tap into Ivica Zubac's passing ability within the flow of what they want to do.

0221

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 10h

Underrated for Indiana is the counters they can get to with Tyrese Haliburton back. Wide pindown for Haliburton and he cuts backdoor. Notice he stops at the nail and then cuts up the middle to get the ball back. Flows right into P&R with Zubac, weakside not in, pass for 2.

070

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 10h

Tyrese Haliburton just processing the floor. Brings it up, sees Siakam working to seal in the paint. Saw it wasn't there and advances to Oubre. Calls for the swing to Zubac so he can cut back towards the ball, right to his pullup.

1160

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 10h

well Tyrese Haliburton is back, sheesh.

0397

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 10h

(human brain moment but that's got to be a little wild for Game 1 of your return to be at your alma mater Iowa State and Game 2 of your return to be in that building in OKC)

1120

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 10h

Haliburton back in OKC and the Thunder are starting Shai/Caruso/Wallace/J-Dub/Hartenstein might have to get involved with that.

070

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 10h

More off ball work for Kawhi Leonard, going to move him around the board. Pindown but notice that screen is set at the right elbow with the left wing clear. Lot of room for Kawhi to operate with, he ends up going right into a 3.

090

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 10h

No hesitation on this trail 3 from Collin Murray-Boyles. Not about volume for me, be confident and willing in the ones that pop up.

0100

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 10h

why yes i do believe the toronto raptors are going to be annoying on defense

0193

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 11h

I did want to see Kawhi, Scottie Barnes and Collin Murray-Boyles. I will absolutely accept Scottie Barnes, CMB and Allen Graves.

0110

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 11h

Off ball movement for Kawhi Leonard here. RJ Barrett with a backscreen for him, left side is empty. Switch, Kawhi gets to a post up. Look at the space he has. Notice the false action on the right side, stagger but stay high to keep it clear. Kawhi goes right to work.

0132

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 11h

Immanuel Quickley doing his job for the Raptors early. Quick decisions and getting off of it. -High pick and roll, sees the space, snakes and kicks right away to RJ Barrett for 3 -Quick attack in transition, gets it right to Kawhi trailing for 3.

0101

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 11h

So you face the Toronto Raptors and you run empty side pick and roll only Scottie Barnes is helping at the elbow and Kawhi Leonard is helping on the block.

Possession that makes me think about both sides For Atlanta, how much does Jalen Johnson get two on the ball and what does it open up? How do you space Daniels/Dort within flow? For Indiana, how often are you at the level and s your weakside ready to be in early + get out

070

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

A Jaren Jackson Jr drive into Darryn Peterson flying around all over the place. The Jazz are going to be annoying to deal with in SLC.

1161

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

Looked up to see the Jazz running George, Peterson, Bailey, Markkanen and JJJ and I'm locked in.

0120

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

The aggression from Jaden McDaniels has not stopped. Best part for Minnesota is they can shift more of these type of reps without disrupting their flow.

2151

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

The Knicks leaning in on flow and movement in the preseason feels like an overall plus. Being able to do it with bench units should add to their attack. Underrated part of the Drummond addition is he's got a comfort with handoff work.

080

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

No bucket here but this is really good movement and flow from the New York Knicks. -Exchange and throw it in the post -Stagger away, McBride curls the first screen. Brunson off a screen from Hart into a handoff from Drummond -Room to turn the corner, draws help and kicks.

050

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

Sometimes it just comes down to vibes. A casual no look pass and then a disappointed hop when the extra pass to Edwards was off target.

0506

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

The playmaking from LaMelo Ball for Minnesota is one thing, the speed of the passes feels like another. Drop here but as soon as he sees OG move in to tag at the nail, skip pass is right to McDaniels for 3.

2244

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

More of Anthony Edwards off ball in Minnesota. LaMelo Ball able to run pick and roll on one side. Wide pindown for Edwards on the other. Try to navigate and now it flows right into a quick P&R.

0110

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

Trae Young's playmaking on display. Being able to just flow into him and Ayton in pick and roll in the middle of the first is key -Young gets two on the ball, defense help, skip pass to the corner for 3 -Two on the ball, Ayton gets it on the short roll. Kick to Johnson for 3

0120

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

Well, Trae Young is enjoying getting downhill and passing the ball. Julius Randle is giving the Nets a lift in the half court. His versatility helps their base on offense.

090

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 13/10/2026

I have my questions on if the Wizards can build a defensive base but the more I watch them I realize there are a lot of lineups that just have size and length.

1130

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

I have nodded at the effort Ja Morant's tried to give on defense early in his Portland campaign. Will still have to develop it all season but intrigued.

2385

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

I continue to enjoy the Scoot Henderson Experience.

2342

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

It felt like Ja/Dame was a lot of Ja on ball with Dame operating off ball. You would assume that would be flipped with Ja/Jrue but it's felt pretty balanced. Getting Ja in transition or with handoffs in the half court. Blazers should have strong guard play all 48

0180

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

Well the Ja Morant/Donovan Clingan connection looks like it's going to be fun

0232

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

This Blazers/London Lions game is a scoreboard special which is reminding me of when I was a video coordinator and had to scramble to make sure I was getting the feed that just showed the court. Who needs a scorebug when you have hoop!

0110

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

Another from the preseason notebook: nail help is great, nail help requires nuance, nail help can and will be countered.

160

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

This pocket pass from Brandon Miller was simple but it was delivered with the kind of confidence and comfort that caught my eye. No change of pace, didn't hit a turbo button, not worried about the help. Intrigued. Diabate's quick release on screens, always fun.

0180

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

James Harden had zero issues going right into a midrange pullup a few times in this one. No stepback, just right into vs. space. I remain intrigued.

070

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

Like the design of this action from Orlando. Swing to the wing, DHO to Nikola Vucevic who advances to the top for P&R. Keep the wings clear, try to get a big on the move. Got a pick and pop out of it.

050

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

Orlando got Cleveland twice with this baseline out of bounds action. Right side is cleared, staggered backscreens for Paolo -First time, da Silva slips the second screen to beat the switch and flies off the exit screen -Second time, sets it, CLE switches everything, has angle

150

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

Not new but clear Cleveland is trying to get to their spacing with movement -Elbow catch for Mitchell, Harden off a flare from Allen, Mobley in right corner -Flows into Allen screening for Mitchell. Mobley from corner to dunker spot, Harden from wing to corner, Watson rises

0151

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

Magic/Cavs first quarter is full of "hey this is interesting" followed up by an immediate foul. Clear Orlando wants drive and kick, quicker decisions and the ball moving side to side. Really working to get to a guard screening for Paolo/Franz *within* the flow/movement

080

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

Duncan Robinson making the most of his movement. Sees Young working to deny the pindown, cuts up the middle. As soon as he gets the defense trailing, motions for Jenkins to advance to Reed. Right off a flare for a handoff.

071

Steve Jones @stevejones20.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

Not a perfect world but the Pistons just kept moving it at times offensively. Felt like quicker decisions in the half court to get to the next action.
