A good afternoon was spent looking at the actions of 3 Commando RM 🇬🇧 at Yellow beaches, following in the footsteps of the then T/Major Peter Young in their mission to silence Goebbels Battery, and then the Canadian 🇨🇦 landing at Puys on Blue beach. Tomorrow we will explore the #Dieppe #Normandy

Lessons from Gallipoli have been resurfacing in recent weeks. History shows us that narrow waterways cannot be captured by force alone. The Dardanelles is an example that should not be ignored otherwise the Gulf of Hormuz will be another naval graveyard #diplomacy

We visited the grave of a Limerick lad, Private Patrick Joseph Downey, who was 18 when he enlisted. He survived the Gallipoli campaign to be shot at dawn in Salonika for “disobedience.” Downey had refused to put on his cap #StPatricksDay ☘️ #RIP
