Hezbollah supposedly withdrew to North of the Litani river, so if they're just hitting some equipment, why the big explosions? Seems something at that site was highly explosive/flammable? If so, Hezbollah is violating the cease fire terms and that's a legitimate target.

Has Noem checked out the price of SB tickets? The only "illegal immigrants" will be Republic donors buying (or sleeping) their way into citizenship.

This was always a bad strategy, they're doing it to placate the Democratic Left, that just elected Trump by alienating Independent voters. Trump simply doesn't care if the government shuts down, how do you blackmail a guy who say print the pictures?

It should stay closed. There is no chance for DACA or support for legal immigration as long as illegal immigration is uncontrolled. Biden administration screwed immigrants already in the country by failing to address this issue early in his tenure b/c he didn't want to take on the Progressives.

I think these brave people should now command a caravan to help the starving Africans in the Sudan. I'm sure they'll receive humane treatment from the RSF.

Since when is observing (and that's what photography is) criminal when it doesn't involve trespass? The whole concept of "hate crime" is a bad idea - either it's assault or other criminal behavior or it's free speech. Gov should not be deciding which speech is acceptable.

Hegseth lecturing officers, some of whom were in 3 wars. Hegseth was not a front-line leader of combat troops under sustained fire. He did not command an infantry company in protracted combat or lead exhausted soldiers through night patrols and firefights. medium.com/the-politica...

Melodrama. The new reality is that Israel is now an "Arab" state, its politics are driven by descendants of Arab Jews and Russians. No one in the Arab world cares about Kurdish self-determination or UAE financing the slaughter of Africans in the Sudan. They'll work things out with Israel as well

What the heck is the 'radical Left?' The Progressive Left isn't exactly radical, silly and naive (pretending there's an unlimited bucket of funds out there), but otherwise pretty conventional. Antifa? A couple hundred idiots who like to pretend they're the vanguard of the "Revolution".

Even Hamas knows they can't destroy Israel with Hezbollah in tatters and Iran exposed as a paper lion. So what are they fighting for? Not Gaza, not the Palestinians. To maintain control to extort money so they don't have to give up the income that allows them to pretend to be the resistance

Kinda late for the "snowflakes" to embrace free speech. Of course, since the Left was never popular enough to win elections (only moderate Democrats win national elections), it relied on social pressure instead of government coercion - but same principle, free for me but not for thee.

That's cute. And who is going to run that state? if you're a Palestinian, after the Israelis withdraw, don't hold your breath waiting for European aid. And if Hamas stays in power, forget the Gulf states, other than Qatar. When are they going to recognize Kurdish statehood?

Redistricting can be an opportunity for Democrats - since they were a powerless minority before, having to run in distracts that aren't "safe" should select for more acceptable candidates statewide - creating a pool of candidates far more attractive than say O'Rourke.

The simplest cure would be to require tenure and promotion committees to only consider 3? articles or 1 book, and actually read them. Quality over quantity. If they aren't competent to judge a colleague's work in their area of expertise, they shouldn't be on that committee.

You can't be a Christian Nationalist and a Conservative. An American Conservative respects the Constitution and our history, and our Founding Fathers were adamant when it came to separation of Church and State. Kirk was a Reactionary, harking to an imaginary past.

No. I'm talking about identifying whether the bombing is indiscriminate or targeted at Hamas facilities. Whether the IDF blew up building for spite or b/c they were booby trapped. You can find that out in Israel, or Ukraine or . . . But not in Gaza. A real journalist would ask these questions.

It's all performative, Trump just wants to get a reaction from the Left. Don't bite. Best way to deal with it, a combination of ridicule, sympathy for NG being pulled out of their lives, and constantly asking how much it costs and why not spend that money on more police through block grants?

Why are they even in Lebanon? For 2 decades they watched Hezbollah militarize S Lebanon in violation of the agreement they stay north of the Litani river. They lacked the power to stop it, but failed to report it either. Basically as useless as tits on a bull.

This is where the focus should be, the waste of money and the disruption to the lives of the Guardsmen, not "performative politics." Focus on the stupidity of spending the money on deploying the NG instead of helping Chicago hire more police. No hysterics, just common sense.

Hezbollah will never disarm, as a political party they have no appeal to the rest of Lebanon. And the LAF will never disarm them. Israel will strike any armed Hezbollah south of the Litani River and any stockpile of missiles they can locate. They will never allow Hezbollah to threaten them again.

They've tried "performative politics" - and it's a dismal failure. Elections have consequences, and moving to the Left of voters has consequences. The Democrats either become a centralist party, or a new party will form that will engage the center, which is the majority of American voters.

They should eliminate racial profiling. Doesn't matter why a child is poor. The reason to eliminate income based profiling is that wealthy parents spend a lot of money to give their kids an edge over poorer children, and if schools took that into account, that money would be wasted.

Unless the report links to multiple peer review studies, it's nonsense. The reason I say multiple, science is a dialogue, you can't cherry pick one article, you need to listen to the conversation. And the reason for peer review in reputable journals, b/c knowledgeable critics will expose fraud.

The way to react is to welcome any help in fighting crime, but ask how much it'll cost and whether the Feds could just give a grant to hire more police? Instead of "resistance," just ask embarrassing questions like this and focus on the waste of money and the failure to actually fight crime.

That's very cute on both sides. By announcing the roundup, many immigrants will "go to ground" until it's over, so it's basically performative politics. And those protests are also performative politics. Politics in 2025, "for the Internet, by the people, edited by AI"

Trust none of these stories unless verified by independent testers who utilize demographic and other data to weight the results. Private schools can cherry-pick students to make them look good, leaving the high resource dependent students in public schools (poor, developmental problems, etc.)

Has Hezbollah withdrawn its weapons and militants to north of the Litani river as agreed decades ago? Nope. Which makes any armed Hezbollah member south of the river fair game. Israel doesn't give a shit who rules Lebanon, but they won't tolerate "wars of attrition" on their borders.

steveisser.bsky.social @steveisser.bsky.social · 01/09/2025
It's all performative politics. If you really want to find illegal immigrants, you'd do it quietly and patiently. By announcing their intentions, they're giving these immigrants time to prepare and go "underground" until Noem has exhausted her budget.

I'd welcome them with open arms, say we're glad for all assistance to fight real crime in Chicago. But we lack resources to round up nonviolent immigrants when there are real criminals to pursue. We will not use scarce resources to help ICE. If you want to give us more money for police . . .

Let's rebuild underwater, shall we. Low lying land should be used as parks, floodplain for future floods. Question is where do residents go and what land is safe. G of Mexico is a bathtub, with global warming and subsidence in S LA, inevitable that a bigger storm than Katrina will hit NO.

It's a meaningless gesture. Even a moderate left Israeli gov would never accept a Palestinian state that wasn't disarmed, no missiles, etc. So as long as Hamas is in power, it's a moot point. Palestinians will have to compromise, no return, point will be to have int'l identity, not regain land.
000
steveisser.bsky.social @steveisser.bsky.social · 31/08/2025
It's probably not a good idea to fire missiles at another country unless you're prepared for the consequences. Better the Israelis kill the leaders than the poor schmucks they fool into following them. Notice all these Arab leaders promoting "martyrdom" tend to hide in bunkers?

A ceasefire entrenches Hamas as the de facto ruler of Gaza: 1) they will attack again, it's their raison d'etre. 2) as long as Hamas retains arms, no one will invest in Gaza Israel should withdraw, fortify the border, patrol with drones and napalm any tunnel that crosses the border.

The war will end either when Putin runs out of volunteers (a draft would be politically explosive) or Ukraine is able to damage enough Russian infrastructure to make continuing the war untenable. Putin is interested in peace, that is, piece of Ukraine, piece of Baltic states, piece of Poland . . .

Newsom would be a disaster, California is a hard sell, and it isn't like he did a great job as Governor. Best Democratic candidates DON'T come from CA, Mass or NY. They come from states where they have to garner support from independents and moderate Republicans, not just preach to the choir.

It's a trap only if they're stupid. Just point out how ridiculous it is to use the National Guard and divert DEA and FBI personnel from fighting real crime. Then ask who's paying for this "Potemkin village" and why not use that money to help cities hire real police.

This is the kind of hysteria that plays into Trump's hands. He does these things to provoke overreaction, which he can then use to paint his opponents as hysterical. A better approach is ridicule combined with common sense, making fun of guarding traffic lights while asking who's footing the bill?

You'd think from the coverage of Gaza, that Hamas doesn't exist. The Israelis are brutal, but it is Hamas who has prolonged the conflict they started. It is Hamas who militarized the entire strip. And if Hamas remained in control, Gaza will be poverty stricken for another 100 years.
