Wall Brown butterflies at Roydon Common this evening. I can't help but think they've left it a bit late in the year for this kind of romantic activity #ukwildlife #butterflies #ukbutterflies

Yellow-browed Warbler at Holme this evening. An autumn migrant, once very scarce but more numerous in recent years. A small influx seems to have arrived on the Norfolk coast today following the first easterly winds we've had for ages #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Purple Sandpiper at Titchwell this afternoon. First one I've seen in ages, as we don't get so many down this western end of the North Norfolk coast. This one had chosen a resting spot close to the main path, so quire a crowd gathered #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

A few Gannets fishing offshore at Holme last night. The adults stayed a long way out, but the juveniles didn't seem to mind coming a bit closer to the beach #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Lesser Whitethroat, preening itself within the cover of a hawthorn bush at Roydon Common this evening. Not particularly uncommon, but always tricky to spot during breeding season. They tend to become a bit more visible in the autumn when they start migrating #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

One of this year’s young Hobbies (distinguished from the adults by the lack of red trousers) hunting dragonflies over Lakenheath Fen last night. Fattening itself up for its first flight down to Africa in a few weeks’ time #UKBirding #birds

Coming towards the end of a very good butterflysummer, so I thought I'd post pics of the species I've seen for the first time this year. Some I've not spotted before because they're rare, and others because I wasn't paying enough attention. Details in alt text #ukwildlife #butterflies #ukbutterflies

Barn Owl, devouring something small and squeaky it caught on Terrington Marsh this evening. I like to think the third photo shows a hearty burp being released, but I have no way of confirming that #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Excellent afternoon at Titchwell. Both Spotted Crakes showing well on opposite sides of the fresh marsh. Offshore, a smart summer plumaged Red-throated Diver (my first of the autumn) and several moulting Eiders. And a Hobby high overhead on the way back to the car #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds

Holme 2 Bronze Age timber circle, the “other Seahenge”. Amidst all the fuss around the excavation of Seahenge in 1999, it was slightly brushed over that there was a second monument on the beach. Left in place, it can still be seen on particularly low tides, like we had today

Deadly Nightshade (Atropa Belladonna) at Grimston Warren this afternoon. Don't be tempted by those shiny berries! Very windy, so I had to hold the plant steady for the photos. Made sure to wash my hands before I ate my Twix on the way home.

Long bike ride today, and stopped at this spot on the River Nar as I always do, for the Graylings. Ropey phone video only, as the proper camera spoils the cycling aerodynamics #ukwildlife
