When we see "Nº 10" is that the 10th PM Britain has had in a decade?
Number 10 Downing Street door, Westminster, normally the home of the Chancellor of the Exchequor. The PM usually takes number 11 because it's bigger, and then they just pretend they live the other way around by coming out of the wrong doors. Black door set against the black bricks of the building (which used to be a nice light colour until there was too much London smog staining, so they just painted it all black) with a white number 10 on it with a wonky zero. 37 degrees off as a continuing historical nod to the UK government fucking things up by quite a lot.

There have been requests. No one asked for camels 🐪🐪😭 This is one of my favourite wildlife photos. We're not looking at camels, we're looking at huge elongated shadows of camels taken at sunset from the air. The actual camels are so small in comparison to their shadows that we can hardly see them.

The otter emoji. Brown and rolling on its back, but we don't know why it is holding cards.

What I particularly like about this fictional TV character John Munch is he appears in Homicide: Life on the Street (1993-1999), the Unusual Supects episode of The X Files (1997), and in The Wire. Are there any other examples of the same TV character featuring in different, unconnected shows? 1/2
John Munch is a fictional character played by actor Richard Belzer. Munch first appeared on the American crime drama television series Homicide: Life on the Street on NBC. A regular through the entire run of the series from 1993 to 1999, Munch is a cynical detective in the Baltimore Police Department's Homicide unit, and a firm believer in conspiracy theories. He is originally partnered with Detective Stanley Bolander (Ned Beatty). Munch is based on Jay Landsman, a central figure in David Simon's 1991 true crime book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets. What I really like is that this same character also appears in the Unusual Supects episode of The X Files (1997) and in The Wire. Are there any other examples of TV characters featuring in different, unconnected shows?

Caravaggio's masterpiece The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist (1608) is kept in the dark Oratory of St. John's Cathedral, Valletta so the black doesn't fade. Dramatic. Lived in Malta for a short while, love exceptional masterpiece art, didn't know it was there, so never seen it myself 😭
Caravaggio's masterpiece The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist (1608) is kept in the dim, dramatic Oratory of St. John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta, Malta. It hangs in its original commission site inside the St John's Cathedral Oratory, an intentionally shadowed, atmospheric prayer and ceremonial hall. I've visited Malta several times, even lived there for a short while, love exceptional masterpiece art like this, didn't know it was there, so never saw it myself [crying buckets emoji].

Anatidaephobia means the fear of being watched by a duck. Sorry if you also suffer from Lutraphobia - the fear of being watched by an otter.
An classic funny screen grab of the definition of Anatidaephobia - the fear of being watched by a duck. Coined by Gary Larson (The Far Side cartoons) I think? On the screen in the middle of the definition is an advert for Aflac which includes an aggressive looking white duck peering in from the side. And Aflac includes a duck in its logo with the words "We've got you under our wing".

😄 Yes! Inara, this is Kronk; Kronk, please meet Inara. I drove around Australia for two years. My only home anywhere in the world was an old van.
A van called Kronk. Parked on a beautiful, empty, soft sandy beach between Rainbow Beach and Inskip Peninsula, Australia in 2006. The Pacific Ocean just metres away.

There will be a Saturday W World Pub Tour again today. You don't have to stay, just come and say cheers, if you like. Everyone welcome. You can post photos of your favourite pub or yourself drinking. We can go *anywhere*. There will be a pub jukebox where anyone can provide music, and a pub game.
Moynihan's pub, Funchal, Madeira, Portugal: inside at the bar. This is my favourite place to drink and I go regularly. Photo one of four.

Moynihan's pub outside from slightly above: terrace, with sunshade cover and for when it rains. And there's another smaller terrace one floor up. Absolutely full to bursting with empty chairs and tables. Proper packed with people for events, especially St Patrick's Day. Had some great times on this terrace. Photo two of four.

Even better than the beaches, the summit of La Palma. Over 2,400m. This place is above the clouds and called Roque de los Muchachos. It feels like being on top of the world. The air is so clear they have built space telescopes. At one point, you can see my shadow waving to you 👋

Because I am very naughty, I am turning Anna's post into a game without her permission 😮😁 Where am I landing? (extremely hard level to guess)
A photograph taken on an aeroplane above the cloud line passing mountainous terrain with blue skies above. In the top right of the image, there is a bit of plane wing. Looking carefully at the bottom of the photo, coastline can be seen. I have posted this picture to see if anyone can recognise where it is, but I think it is very hard to guess. My first clue is that it is Europe, not in Europe. My second clue is that if anyone can recognise this place, this is not where the plane lands. It flies past here, starts to turn to the right, and lands somewhere close by about 20 minutes later.

Switzerland does show how trust can grow and people can feel heard. Regarding Escher's sketch: On one hand, is a more informed electorate required for a healthy, functioning direct democracy? Or on the other, does a greater voice in a direct democracy create a more informed and engaged electorate?
Drawing Hands by M. C. Escher, 1948. This lithograph depicts a sheet of paper, out of which two hands rise, in the paradoxical act of drawing one another into existence.

Whitsunday Island, Great Barrier Reef. Photo taken 2006. Pure white, sand of Whitehaven Beach is like flour to walk on barefoot, cool even on the hottest of days, and formed from millions of years of coral erosion. Utterly disgusting. Better to view burnt out upturned cars in Stoke.
Photograph of a view from Whitsunday Island, Great Barrier Reef, Australia, taken in 2006. The pure white, soft sand of Whitehaven Beach is to the left, out of this shot. Like flour to walk on barefoot, cool even on the hottest of days, and formed from millions of years of coral erosion.
The photo has dark green trees in the foreground at the bottom, and is looking across a shallow ocean of light blues, greens and turquoise to other islands of dark green in the background. I've brought the Infineural green search engines info here so W people can find/share directly. Full Alt text in image: If you want to plant trees while you browse in 2026, Ecosia remains the undisputed heavyweight champion because of its massive infrastructure and transparent financial reporting.
But which one should you actually use? It depends on whether you value search depth, privacy, or the specific type of environmental impact you want to make. In our work at Infineural Technologies, we have seen a massive shift toward ethical digital consumption as users move away from traditional data-hungry giants. Let us look at how these green alternatives stack up right now. // Comparison of Eco-Friendly Search Engines That Plant Trees: 2026 Matrix // To help you decide which platform fits your workflow, we have compiled the latest 2026 data comparing the top environmental search engines. While planting trees is the primary goal, the search technology and privacy protocols differ significantly between providers //

Ecosia	Reforestation	Bing + Proprietary	High	210M+

A few months ago Ecosia.org added a free personal account option. Gives little rewards each day you do a search. A small thing that pleases me. Even though I've used Ecosia for years, some of you will be way ahead of me with higher scores, right? Can I put "Level 7 wildlife protector" on my CV?
Screen grab of my free personal Ecosia online search account. The background is a pleasing foresty green design, and main text on the page says: Ecosia; We use 100% of profits for the planet; [white search box] Ask, search, browse...; [below] 255,693,841 trees planted by Ecosia; €103,794,218 dedicated to climate action. Then my own personal account box on the right says: 185 [points earned] Steve; Level 7 - wildlife protector; See your impact grow; Reach new levels and see the climate impact you're having through your own Ecosia account; Your Ecosia; Your Profile; Collectibles; Search; Settings; Use Ecosia.

No one would want an old vehicle. They are just so ugly compared to beautiful contemporary designs which look so different from each other that everyone can easily tell them apart.

It should be.
A funny road sign in the Cape Tribulation area of Australia. Two yellow diamonds, one above the other. The top one has a black cartoon outline of a cassowary bird lying flat on its back with "AFTER"; and in the lower diamond is a cassowary standing, with "BEFORE" written next to it. The sign is to warn drivers to slow down and take care because the cassowaries haven't learnt not to wander in front of vehicles yet. It's their ancient territory really, and we are just visitors. Two vans are parked beyond the sign, because I wanted to run back and take this photo, so we stopped the... erm... convoy.

Worst photo ever taken? Wild cassowary. Cape Tribulation. Alone. Stood motionless facing each other. Mutual respect. Looking into its eyes like looking back in time millions of years. Slowly got phone out. As I took the snap it ducked down behind a small tree. Just its bum and a flash of blue neck.
Wild cassowary bird snapped at Cape Tribulation, Australia in 2006. A pristine, unspoiled landscape, north of Cairns. We stood staring at each other for ages on a remote path, just a few feet apart. I felt a mutual respect between us, and it also felt to me like looking back in time millions of years. Slowly took out my phone camera to take this snap... and just at the moment I pressed the button, it ducked down behind a small tree. All that can be seen is its bum, and a flash of blue head. It totally knew what it was doing. Lucky to be alive, because cassowaries have razor sharp claws and can lunge with both feet, slicing humans to pieces. But this one was OK with me, and I was OK with it.

That's a moray.
A moray eel. Looking a bit disgruntled, actually. Staring straight down the underwater lens at us. Round white eyes, black pupils in the middle (a bit googly) and a sort of brownish purple face. Really big frowny mouth yet somehow funny. The post this photo comes with just says "That's a moray." If this doesn't make any sense to you, try saying those three words out loud. Or sing them if you know the tune.

I'm becoming increasingly proud of the W verification badge. It has value to me. Should I be accused of not being human (in fairness, I am a bit of an animal) or not who I say I am, I can just point to it. And I instantly respect others who have the icon on their profiles. Thank you, @wsocial.eu
The W Social verified icon, found beside the name of W users. It's a dark blue box with a turquoise border. Within, a turquoise disembodied torso with a black face, next to an = (equals symbol) which, to me, makes the whole thing look a bit like an ID card. When you click on the icon, it brings up a box which says "You are a verified human - This account has been verified as belonging to a real person by trusted sources."

The example here covers a box-drawn selected area (not shown) covering a large area of British Colombia, Canada including: Vancouver Island, inland across to Banff National Park and south over the border into northern Washington State in the US. I would recommend a smaller selected region focusing around your area of interest, otherwise you'll receive a lot of alerts in fire season. // The Canada BC selected area in the image above was not available when I tried to set it up. So I selected my own boxed area to cover instead which was accepted, although I didn't take a screen grab during the process. This is my first test of this resource, so I can't yet vouch for how well it works.

In 2013 I attended cross-Party (MPs) and cross-House (Lords) Committees at UK Parliament. Meetings regarding the future of thorium energy went well. The outcomes not so much. Here are some low quality photos I was not allowed to take that day. In the final pic, the carriage reg plate reads 'SATAN'.
2013: UK Houses of Parliament, Westminster Palace. Upstairs, above the House of Commons, where MPs and Lords hold meetings of various important committees, and stuff about their own pay. The view shows a wide, elaborate corridor lined with dark glossy antique carved wooden panels, a plush carpet of dubious choice, a fine arched doorway at the end, and a distinct lack of security at that time. Hence these photos. 1 of 4.2013: UK Houses of Parliament, Westminster Palace. A view from an open corridor window overlooking the central courtyard. The camera has been angled upwards to capture the fine architecture of high turrets and the main tower in the centre of the palace. Photo 2 of 4.2013: UK Houses of Parliament, Westminster Palace. Upstairs, above the House of Commons. The view shows a long, wide corridor lined with dark glossy ornate carved wooden panels, a plush carpet of dubious choice, and access doors to committee rooms. It smelled old. Low quality photo 3 of 4.2013. Outside the UK Parliament at the Palace of Westminster, glowing gold in the evening sun in the background. Having a drink with committee meeting attendees at a nearby pub called St Stephen's Tavern. Parked in a side street beside the pub is a black carriage driven by a darkly clad fellow, hunched over, facing towards Parliament. The rear registration plate of his vehicle reads "SATAN". Photo 4 of 4.
