Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 24/02/2025Wait, the guy who managed the rollout of the chipotlane thinks Starbucks drive through was a bad idea? 000
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 04/01/2025You need to spend more time writing custom GitHub actions, that really juices the numbers 020
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 13/12/2024Google Calendar, why do you insist on moving my AirPods to my mac, are you going to play me some music? 010
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 13/12/2024I have an extra USB-Cord on my desk I keep plugging into my devices, the problem? It's the one cord on my desk not plugged into any power. 020
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 12/12/2024Would you take a PR to add support for the firehose? I had to work out how to parse all the CBOR for a java project I wrote a couple months ago so I'd just have to port it - shouldn't be too bad. 100
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 12/12/2024I was playing some Christmas songs on my piano in my office last night while my three year old was playing with my desk. of course my apple watch unlocks my mac while my he is playing with my keyboard, so all sorts of interesting 'code' to undo this morning when I started work :) 120
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 12/12/2024And use something like clion / GDB to see what's not getting cleaned up (bit more painstaking I suppose). I don't pretend to be an expert in the discipline though. 100
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 12/12/2024I've not had to do that, but that seems like a sensible approach. At the end of the day, the Redis Modules library has to be calling malloc/free so you'd think Valgrind would be able to see where that is / isn't happening. FWIW when I do native type programming I'll often set up my own test env 100

Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 11/12/2024New apple intelligence visual intelligence seems to work? Wonder to what extent it will hold up! 040
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 11/12/2024Ahh yes, that TODO i forgot to add a comment for, turns out I forgot. . . to do it 😅 000

Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 09/12/2024Is Immaculate conception the only one that gets moved if it’s on a Sunday? Usually for the other holy days they(the bishops) move it from a Sat/Mon -> Sunday. Even the Ascension usually gets moved 🤔 100
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 09/12/2024I switched to a new keyboard about 10 days ago, then I immediately went to re:invent so this is really only my second day using it. The weirdest thing is actually having the cmd and option buttons in the right place! 010

Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 08/12/2024Idk about YouTube or AI, missing aggressive amounts of coffee, copious logging, and a disturbing amount of time spent in a debugger. 000
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 08/12/2024I’ve been to the airport, does that count? 🙂. One day maybe 110
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 07/12/2024When you read from the cache, if it's in the IMemoryCache, great, if not it goes back to the server to see what the value is and stores that in the IMemoryCache before returning it. 020
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 07/12/2024HybridCache is a new feature in .NET 9, it's a hybrid approach to caching. It uses both client side an distributed caching. I might be missing something, I'm not entirely sure what the issue is here, as it sounds like it's working appropriately. When you write to the cache, you write to the cache. 220
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 07/12/2024The dirty not-so-secret of our field is that, in spite of the media’s portrayal of us typing code into vim, while an apt command runs in a separate terminal. Writing the code is actually one the least skillful parts of what we do. 050

Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 03/12/2024Idk what the economics look like, but hoping you all are able to add a subscription tier for the Vergecast / the broader Vox podcast network at some point! 000
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 03/12/2024I do like the copilot integration for rider / intellij, one comment though, and this might not be something fixable atm, it would be nice if the copilot auto-complete also did the imports for you (like the regular autocomplete does). 020
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 01/12/2024I’m only on #2 and it’s peanut butter bread dinner, but yeah… 010
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 30/11/2024Packing for re:invent, first time traveling alone in a couple of years, have to say it's nice that now my laptop/phone/gaming console/kindle all use the same charger. Only need a lighting for my airpods and the charger for my Apple watch, so 3 chargers, not so bad (2 if I upgraded my airpods) 020
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 30/11/2024I was skeptical before with Threads, but I’ve been on Bluesky for almost a month, and simply don’t look at twitter anymore. It’s really odd. 0150
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 30/11/2024In fairness to Keynes, to produce what a worker produced in 1930 you’d need maybe a 4 hour work week. 030
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 30/11/2024This was my iPhone upgrade year (I’m on a 4 year cycle), great phone, and Apple Intelligence provides some comic relief, can’t say I’ve seen anything of use yet. The level of innovation in the iPhone line is basically the opposite of the Mac line. 130
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 30/11/2024Will they be at re:invent? Or no because you all like to save money and host all your own stuff? 030
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 29/11/2024Compiling anything with GraalVM is quite intense considering it's essentially statically linking your app + the JRE. Also, extremely annoying to get right if you are doing anything fancy(prone to all sorts of fun runtime errors). 110
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 28/11/2024Idk, if a 14 y/o backs up their own PDS or Mastadon instance to the fediverse who do they go after? The kid? 010
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 28/11/2024Starter packs won’t be nearly as useful for Threads as it has been for Bluesky, Threads was working off of a massive, pre-existing social graph, starter packs are just a very convenient way of kick starting one. 000
Steve Lorello @steve.slorello.com · 28/11/2024My 3 year old has preschooler wipe clean book (basically a book with basic skills and a dry erase marker) It seems odd to me that “dry erase” markers are much harder to read once they dry 🤔 000
