Screenshot of shared article that reads:

They stood by the Resolute Desk, a snapshot of Trump’s education agenda. Miriam was homeschooled. The boy from Michigan attended a private Catholic school. The girl from Washington, who went to public school, had told CNN that she supported Trump and believed the most important thing was “everyone walking away from the competition knowing this is the greatest country of the world.”

In the Oval Office, she told the president she wanted to go to Hillsdale College.

“Hillsdale?” Aangad’s father said.

“Republican college,” Aangad reminded him. They’d been on campus in Michigan last month for the American Legion’s National Oratorical Contest. The school had donated $10 million to the president’s Freedom 250 committee and helped develop its history programs.

“I can give you a recommendation,” the president said to the girl. “I think we should get you in.”

Ok, maybe it’s making more sense why these chuds like him
Screenshot from Nixon’s Wikipedia page:

In his account of the Nixon presidency, author Richard Reeves described Nixon as "a strange man of uncomfortable shyness, who functioned best alone with his thoughts". Nixon's presidency was doomed by his personality, Reeves argues:

He assumed the worst in people, and he brought out the worst in them ... He clung to the idea of being "tough". He thought that was what had brought him to the edge of greatness. But that was what betrayed him. He could not open himself to other men, and he could not open himself to greatness.

What remains one of the best life hacks I’ve ever learned: at any chain that has a phone number-based rewards system needed for discounts (CVS, Duane Reade, etc.), simply put in the local area code followed by 867-5309. There is always already an account. You will always get the discount.

@nancyjane.bsky.social:
Can anybody else verify this? Seems like a good idea.

@wildlee.bsky.social:
Yes, I can also confirm. (Highlighted) That was a phone number of a popular song in the 80s or something, so it immediately comes to mind as a default (fake) phone number for many people of that generation.

There are dumbasses on school boards everyone because you don’t have to have any qualifications to run for them. And those people making decisions about your kids’ education do not think clear thoughts and your kids probably read at a higher reading level than they do.

These chuds are destructive as hell but they are all just momentary masters of a fraction of a dot in the end. Carl Sagan:
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Almost all of this is wrong 😑 The USPS is operating at a loss. But there ISN’T any cushion or subsidy built into the federal budget for it. If USPS needs a financial injection it has to REQUEST financial aid from the government.
Wrong person number 1 says:

The USPS is a government service that is partially subsidized by the taxpayers as a whole and partly by the cost of postage, which is kept lower by the former. Our taxes are supposed to cover any operating costs that are not made up by direct sales as it is a GOSH DANG GOVERNMENT SERVICE

They were quote posting wrong person number 2, whom said:

The USPS IS NOT LOSING MONEY. THE USPS IS SPENDING TAX DOLLARS ALLOCATED TO IT BY THE BUDGET. THE USPS SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRED TO ZERO OUT ITS BALANCE SHEET IT IS NOT A BUSINESS IT DOES NOT HAVE SHAREHOLDERS. IF THE USPS IS OUTSPENDING ITS BUDGET IT SHOULD BE ALLOCATED MORE BUDGET.

The Scouts are also weird for bending over backward to preserve their relationship with the US military tbh
From the article: “The Scouts told Hegseth in January that after hearing his suggestions, they had come up with a plan for him to review, which included discontinuing their Citizenship in Society merit badge and introducing a Military Service merit badge, waiving registration fees for military personnel and holding a ceremony to rededicate themselves to leadership, duty to God, duty to country and service, besides dissolving their DEI board committee.”

I see there’s USPS discourse happening again & I just want to make sure everyone understands that no tax payer money goes to USPS. It is required by the Constitution, but it is also required to be completely self-funding. So it doesn’t need to make a profit, but it sure as shit needs to break even.
From Wikipedia:

A section titled Funding and privatization proposals:

First paragraph:

Since the Postal Reorganization Act came into effect in 1971, the USPS has been mandated to be self-financing and rely solely on revenue from stamps and package deliveries to support itself.
In 1982, postal stamps were changed to be categorized as products rather than a form of taxation, and since then, the Postal Service has no longer received taxpayer funding.

This sounds less like educating kids and more like training a generation of good compliant worker-consumers.
Another parent, who withdrew their son from Alpha Brownsville, says guides offered to buy him something from Amazon if he retook a standardized test and improved his score. But the parent says their son felt shame when he wasn't completing enough lessons in his apps.
"He went from a really happy kid, where school completely changed him that first year," the parent says, "to just a work machine who would do whatever it took."

I spent literally 25 minutes explaining the Halloween series to one of my sons.

Me: So there was Halloween. Then Halloween 2. Then 3, though it's unrelated.

Him: Wait. The Rob Zombie Halloween?

Me: No. That's Halloween. I'm talking about the first Halloween. *Halloween.* Not Halloween.

Him: What

Me: Look, it's not that hard. There was Halloween, and Halloween II. The original ones. Not the later Halloween and Halloween Il and the other Halloween.

Him: What.

Me: Three Halloweens. Two Halloween Ils.
And one unrelated Halloween 3. Then the 7 others.

Him: What.

Four panel meme of two anime characters (I think they’re from Yugioh maybe):

The brown-haired one holds a card that says “don't speak ill of the dead”.

Then the blonde-haired one holds another card, facing away from you. He has a knowing smirk on his face.

He turns the card around; it says “don't be a

The brown-haired guy is literally blown away by this rebuttal.

Oh, apparently her readers suck, too. And the out-sized influence of Amazon sucks. GenAI still sucks, though. The whole situation just sucks.
Screenshot of the same Verge article:

As Mark McGurl writes in Everything and Less, his recent book on how Amazon is shaping fiction, the Kindle platform transformed the author-reader relationship into one of service provider and customer, and the customer is always right. Above all else, authors must write fast.

Lepp, who writes under the pen name Leanne Leeds in the “paranormal cozy mystery” subgenre, allots herself precisely 49 days to write and self-edit a book. This pace, she said, is just on the cusp of being unsustainably slow. She once surveyed her mailing list to ask how long readers would wait between books before abandoning her for another writer. The average was four months. Writer’s block is a luxury she can’t afford, which is why as soon as she heard about an artificial intelligence tool designed to break through it, she started beseeching its developers on Twitter for access to the beta test.
