Mine is probably this one! It was my first « big » piece. I was proud because I was just out of my apprenticeship and was on my own. I still like it even though now I would do things differently!

I think because we live in a fast pace society the younger generation see this as a quick way to make a living artistically. Which its not. It’s actually really hard to get a good amount of clients once your in it. That’s why you have to be passionate.

Well that makes sense! I mean you really had to show the mentor how committed you were to the art. Teaching someone is time consuming and doesnt really get you anything in the end beside maybe the satisfaction of passing on your knowledge to futur generations.

If you really dont want tattoos then it will definitely be harder. I feel like having tattoos shows people how serious and passionate you are about tattooing. I would seriously start getting familiar with tattooers in your area if thats not already the case!

Yeah in that case then you should knock at other shops! Maybe build a good drawing portfolio beforehand and tell them you want to continu your apprenticeship to eventually get your license. Getting tattooed in these shops also helps a ton since you can build trust and good relationships with artists

Yes exactly! I feel like I learned faster that way and also I felt more secure tattooing other people as to not scar or hurt them

I think tattooing yourself is the best way to understand depth but If you’re already done your apprenticeship I guess you dont need that anymore

I know this one is sensitive to some people, but I personally get the ick when an artist doesn’t have a single tattoo. I’ve tattooed myself about 5 times and I think every beginner tattooers should do it at least once before touching anyone else’s skin with a machine.
