Watching this admin push their ideological & thus far illegal wants onto higher ed via accreditation and program participation agreements after trying to use the same levers to protect students' time and tuition for so many years www.insidehighered.com/opinion/view... h/t @michaelhgavin.bsky.social

They're still trying to "spur innovation" out of the "accreditation market" The Devos 2019 accreditation rules were supposed to do that by letting schools seek approval from any accreditor, even outside of old regional boundaries. Here's a live look from inside the Education Department today:

listening to a higher ed podcast unquestioningly hype up AI and the self-proclaimed non-higher ed person who is a C-suite leader at an ed-tech company says: "you have to embrace AI because it is here to stay"
Bugs Bunny emphatically says "NO"

Drag us OECD
screenshot of a block of text from an OECD report; the block of text reads: Increasing expenditure per student typically correlates with improved outcomes, but only up to a point after which additional investment shows little impact on performance. For instance, Japanese 15-year-olds’ mathematics scores are higher than those of their US peers, even though Japan spends about 30% less per student aged 6 to 15 than the United States.

Screenshot of an excerpt from the article in the quoted post: She had run a report on her Student Exchange and Visitor Information System database, where international student records are stored, after seeing troubling reports of foreign student deportations. When she got the results back, she found that a number of her students had had their legal residency status terminated without her knowledge.

Today I'm thankful for brave organizations like the AAUP and AAC&U (and others!) who knew this kind of behavior was in the cards and organized accordingly
