Others in the socials have taken to calling them “WankPanzers“. I’m willing to bet that the number of people who have these and who actually have a valid use for them are less than 10%.

I’ll add my voice in here. Mr Riminton, along with an honourable mention for Sandra Sully, are the only two commercial TV journalists I had any time for.

At first she thought it was still the West Wing episode and it took her a few moments to realise that that they had switched over to the breaking news. She came and woke us up, and not much sleep was had that night.

My wife and I had gone to bed, leaving our daughter staying up late watching a West Wing episode. She popped out of the room to make a cup of tea during an ad break and came back to the broadcast.

In a similar vein, you should always wash your hands after going to the toilet. If you are prepping food that involves chopping chilies, you should also wash them before you go to the toilet. Don’t ask me how I know this.😬

My BIL & SIL keep chooks and give some whenever I visit. Once I gt an egg so large I enquired whether the chook had survived the delivery.

Great piece Kaz. Like Sam Neil before her, her death brought me to tears. Also like Sam, I haven’t heard, nor expect to hear, a bad word said about her.

I was a 19yo student at the time and our psychology lecturer suggested it was a good film to watch as an example of operant conditioning. In those days people under 21 had to be accompanied by a parent to watch an R rated film. My dad‘s comment on our way out was “what a load of bloody rubbish“.

You have my utmost sympathy. That’s quite an early diagnosis. I, at 72, have recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis and/or -arthritis (bone densitometry scans can’t tell the difference apparently, but the treatment(s) are the same. Hope your GP can prescribe relief.

Two problems here: 1) you generally pay up to twice as much for the shredded version of the same variety of cheese bought unshredded. 2) if melting the cheese, preshredded cheese is counter-productive because it contains emulsifier to stop it clumping, which also stops it melting properly.

A few years ago, my son gifted us a drum grater made by Avanti. The ants pants. Fingers and other bodily parts are safe. Comes with three drums (fine, coarse and slice) and suctions onto your benchtop. Haven’t used a box grater since.

Used to be that I’d see a Rosella or two on a daily basis at my bird feeder in the inner Adelaide Hills. Now it’s more like once a month due to the eastwards migration of the lauded (not by me) rainbow lorikeet, which aggressive little bird has driven the Rosella deeper into the Adelaide Hills.

An alternative solution is Drake‘s supermarkets (QLD & SA). They supply the Soda King brand of cylinders which are compatible with Sodastream cylinders and what’s more they will accept Sodastream cylinders as a swap. I’ll keep Burpi in mind though.

One of my favourite politicians, Natasha Stott Despoja got a gong in the King’s birthday honours list. Well deserved, not only for her political life but also for what she has done since. She got the top award: the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC). That’s it, that’s the post.

PSA: her recipe for carbonara is genuinely Italian in that it does not use cream.

Chorizo is a great addition to many dishes. I used it instead of pancetta or guanciale in Nagi’s recipe for pasta carbonara. Worked a treat. Just slice it into 2-3mm discs and shallow fry to just short of charred.

My local supermarket (Drakes, South Australia & QLD only) stocks Alaskan wild caught salmon, branded as Harris Farms. Beware though because Harris Farms also have Tasmanian farmed varieties. Read the wrapper carefully.

I find that the “prep time“ of any recipe assumes that you have a sous chef at your disposal to gather all the ingredients, measure them out and chop vegetables and meats to the appropriate size for the recipe. I typically add 30 minutes to any prep time advertised since I don’t have a sous chef.

I agree 100%. I was in a share house with a professional chef, and he told me that if you go to a McDonald’s or the like at about 10 pm or later, most of the people in the queue ahead of you are professional chefs who just want protein and don’t can’t be bothered making fancy stuff for themselves.
