Her conversations with Morgana and Jacopo have been very interesting. I've really come to like her. I don't know how much longer she'll be around for, but I wish we could spend more time with her. She could've been like a sister for Morgana.

[Fatamoru RFI SPOILERS] Ceren is a bundle of a joy and a ray of light in the dark world of Fatamoru. I didn't expect this from my first impression, but she has genuine wisdom. The way she finds joy in the present moment, practices gratitude, & appreciates the beauty of living despite a hard life.

Yukimasa does have potential for me to love him though. Things get better after he talks with Michel and becomes committed to practicing restraint. But that's so late in the game. If we had spent more time with Yukimasa after that point, maybe I would've come to appreciate him more.

Yukimasa also has the "emotionally tortured/unstable" component. But I feel less convinced of his inner, good nature. While Yukimasa finds joy in violence, Jacopo just feels miserable. It feels more like he's acting a certain way to secure power or to "be a man", rather than his true nature.

[Fatamoru SPOILERS] Jacopo has made me realize that I love male characters who are emotionally tortured/unstable, but beneath all of that lies a sensitive, caring soul. Turn it into commentary about the way boys are encouraged to cut off their feelings to become "men" and it's even better.

"Objection, your honour! But he also..." I know. He goes on to become a piece of shit. And what he does is horrific. There is no excusing it. But he's also so well written and tragically complex. The way his arc explores toxic masculinity and the way gender norms can harm men is something I love.

She gets it. I love the reference to "pretending" here. It directly links to the future, when Jacopo creates 3 keys to ensure someone is always there with him so he doesn't accidentally drop his "act" as a lord. Beneath that act, beneath all the masculine bravado, lies a wounded sensitive boy.

In the same scene, Ceren says to Jacopo: "For all you try to pretend otherwise, deep down, you're a real sweet guy, Jacky."

I can relate to Morgana in terms of the whole "I'm morally righteous and superior to you" vibe. It's not a good personality trait to have... but I understand it. For me, it's because I feel I'm actually "bad", not good enough/have low self-worth, so I'm trying to convince myself I'm good & lovable.

Although Rin is very solitary, I like the idea of using camping as a way to bond and open up to other people. So I'm curious to see how her character evolves. Finally, whoever thought of the idea of talking pinecones deserves a raise.

The other thing I really love about it so far is all the beautiful nature imagery. It reminds me a bit of Non Non Biyori for this reason, which is another anime I love. Also! The crisp, autumn temperatures before winter sets in. I love that feeling, and it's captured perfectly. So cozy.

I've started watching Yuru Camp! 2 episodes in. Rin is very relatable to me. Her preference for solitude, to be immersed in nature by herself without having to be bothered by other people, is very similar to how I can be. She can be antisocial, but I get it.

This is just my perspective, but I feel as if those moments with Jacopo represent a kind of healing from religious inhibition. She doesn't feel the need to be a perfect saint when around Jacopo or the others at the brothel. She can just be Morgana. Her real self. And I think that's wonderful. 💛

[Fatamoru RFI SPOILERS] Building on this, I think one of the beautiful things about watching Morgana insult Jacopo and generally be mean, is that it signifies she's losing some of the inhibition she feels that she *has* to be pure. In those moments, an "ordinary" Morgana starts to appear.

There is so much complexity with this story and how its characters and themes can be examined. It can take something like religion and explore it from a variety of angles, looking at the good effects of it and the bad. It's incredible.

It's that faithful part of her that leads her to believe she *must* be selfless. It's the part of Michelle that leads her to remain with a man who abuses her in Door 3. She loses her capacity to stand up for herself, to resist, to care for her own self and to love herself. Flaws included.

With Morgana, however, I can't help but feel like the pressure she puts on herself to be God's daughter eventually harms her psychologically. She's not able to integrate the negative or dark aspects of her personality into her belief that she must be pure and virtuous. She doesn't allow for nuance.

And on a more personal level, religion influences individual people in different ways. Michel is very much a Christ-like figure, and I think his arc demonstrates the true values of Christianity. Michel is rooted in love and a capacity to empathize and provide guidance to even the worst of people.

She's such an interesting character if you think about her more deeply. It's as if the story is exploring the many different ways in which religion either guides humanity toward empathy and goodness, or how it can harm people when it gets warped into hatred, like with labeling people as witches.

She loses her own personhood within her devout selflessness. She's taken advantage of & betrayed repeatedly. She loses faith in humanity. And eventually, she comes to dislike those saintly parts of herself, pushing them onto Michelle. I wonder if she'd have been happier as an ordinary girl.

Morgana becomes symbolic of that hope. Of what people search for in religion. She can heal those around her. She can soothe the ache in people like Jacopo and Yukimasa. And yet, at the same time, I think the pressure she puts on herself to be a saint robs her of some of her own happiness.

[Fatamoru SPOILERS] All the religious themes in this game are interesting when I think about how spirituality & religion can be used to comfort people. There is so much darkness and cruelty in our world, and feeling connected to something greater provides hope and purpose and guidance.
