As an IU alum (and now media prof) this story literally is making me cry. I’m proud of these students 🩷 full story: www.heraldtimesonline.com/story/news/l...
Screenshot of Sara Whitmer’s facebook post that says: I'm sure many of you have heard by now that earlier this week, IU k*lled the print edition of its student paper, the IDS. The issue that was supposed to print this week contained criticism of the Whitten regime and IUs further slide into scist control, and they couldn't allow that to happen during Homecoming, when all the rich alumni are in town.

Enter Purdue! The Purdue student paper, The Exponent, owns its own presses. Yesterday, in an act of tremendous solidarity with their biggest rival school, they printed the forbidden issue of the IDS. They then drove it to Bloomington overnight and stocked all of the IDS boxes on campus, just in time for Homecoming.

Solidarity is what makes us stronger, and solidarity will be what ultimately allows us to triumph, if we can ever truly get it together. I hope everyone has a fun, safe day if they're going out today, and I hope we can think about what acts of solidarity we can begin taking to really make this movement MOVE - beyond a permitted expression of upset into more active resistance.

Today marked the return of mine and my friend’s “Friday art party” that we try to do at least every couple weeks. Today we collaged! I highly recommend having your own regular art party with your friends and/or family.
Portrait oriented Collage made of magazines, mostly in blues and oranges. At the center is a feather quill that ends at a script sentence reading “Stories about us.” In smaller print to the left of the quill says “Life and Letters” and in bigger print to the right reads “GHOST WRITER” split in half length wise.

Check out full event description here and let me know if you have any questions! (2/2)
Event Description:

The Critical Media Pedagogies SIG invites you to a 90-minute discussion and reflection celebrating the 30th anniversary of bell hooks’ seminal work of critical pedagogical theory Teaching to Transgress. Together, we’ll ask: what insights can we incorporate from hooks’s 1994 text into our teaching practice as 2025 film and media studies educators?

A collection of essays covering a wide range of topics from hooks’ own schooling experiences to building solidarity in university spaces, Teaching to Transgress remains necessary reading for university educators. The book’s combination of personal narrative and critical theory models the ways in which we might approach our own teaching and highlights the importance of drawing from our educational experiences to become more equitable, compassionate teachers.

Those who register for the event will be sent a link to our Zoom meeting and the text to read in advance of our guided discussion.

This is a low stakes book club meeting; even if you read just a bit of the work or run out of time to read, you’re welcome to join and learn from our discussion.

Feeling the way I usually do in December (like I’m not living up to my potential)- so going to try to post some things I liked that I did this year. I started a collage instagram account for creative steam-letting. This is my favorite one!

Finally listening to the “Sold a Story” podcast, and this is all I can think about
A screenshot from the movie Zoolander. Zoolander played by Ben Stiller is leaning over a small model of a school. The text over the screenshot says “How are we supposed to teach students how to read if they can’t even fit inside the building?”

Watching Hot Frosty and thinking I’ve seen *a lot* of graphic wallpaper representation lately. Is Hollywood in cahoots with Rifle Paper Co and/or Big Peel and Stick? Are journalists on this trend yet?

I see this cartoon circulating with many remarking that it is completely detached from reality, but I read this and other similar takes as actively creating an alternate reality
political cartoon by Michael Ramirez from November 11, 2024. Picture of a campaign worker saying to another “how is it even possible to lose to Trump?“ Behind them are slogans including “big government“ “ vote woke“ and” “defund the police“

My proudest accomplishment this summer is that I grew this from a seed from a grocery store pepper with instructions from a tiktok video.

The best things I did this summer were getting back into painting and getting more into gardening. Need a benefactor to fund this life of leisure so I can quit precarious academia. 💕💕

Our local animal shelter has a program where you take a dog out for an afternoon to give them a break from their pen—and we hit the lottery with the sweetest girl ever. Anyone in the greater Philly area should run to bring Bunny home 🐶 ❤️
