Which resulted in Alex Salmond once getting publicly rebuked by Seamus Mallon. BTW, I’m of Scottish ancestry, born in East Belfast but yeah, Seamus Mallon was right.

The 2012 Political Dispute

During a visit to Dublin in January 2012, then-Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond gave an interview on the Irish national broadcaster RTÉ. He claimed that David Cameron's Westminster coalition was trying to "bully" and "intimidate" the Scottish Government regarding the timing of the independence referendum. Salmond drew a parallel to Anglo-Irish history, stating that "people in leadership positions in big countries find it very difficult not to bully small countries".

Seamus Mallon, the former deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland and a veteran nationalist politician with the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP), quickly rebuked Salmond’s framing. Mallon pointed out that Salmond's selective memory ignored the fact that Scots had historically been active "part of the bullying that took place in Ireland," including through Scottish regiments deployed during the Troubles.

Given the news about #Yemen I’ve been on a dive into Wikipedia. When you search for ‘Yemen Civil War’ you get 4 different conflicts. All of which seem to include a foreign intervention that ended disastrously. Maybe there’s a lesson there!??
