I hooted and hollered through all 644 pages of this densely bitchy, reverently detailed depiction of the most "most" couple in showbiz. Such a playful and devil-may-care interpretation of the biography as a form: fastidious & freewheeling in the most unexpected of ways. Monumental.

50 years of Frenzy, Alfred Hitchcock’s brazen British homecoming film
Relaxing censorship and Hitchcock’s return to London set the stage for one of his blackest and most salacious thrillers – a serial killer thriller called Frenzy, which he compared to a fairground ride...

great read about "ironic laughter" in new Sight & Sound. people laughing at inappropriate moments in the cinema is my pet peeve – particularly in sex scenes – so I'm glad to see Mike Williams articulating this so well

enjoyed MANHUNT at the Royal Court, which I originally booked out of amused curiosity – a play about Raoul Moat?? – but it's slippery and compelling, and gets more right about masculinity and incel culture than, say, ADOLESCENCE, which I found didactic and broad. catch it before it closes in a week!

50 years ago, Watergate changed the American political thriller forever
When Richard Nixon’s administration covered up its involvement in the 1972 break-in at the Democratic National Committee’s offices, a new cinematic catnip was born.

now that I think about it, MANODROME – which never got a UK release – does a better job of showing how 'normal people' are being sucked into poisonous incel ideology than ADOLESCENCE. old review here: we-love-cinema.com/reviews/mano...

Manodrome review – a dark foray into the ouroboros of toxic masculinity
Jesse Eisenberg is brilliantly cast against type in a fascinating, flawed thriller with too many moving parts to do its subject justice

absolutely frothing at the mouth at how much I loved maligned hijacking thriller TURBULENCE (1997) – vibing on the same operatic lunacy as RICOCHET (1991) – with an all-timer chaotic Ray Liotta performance. oh, and it's a Christmas movie
