816B total with 42B active is a sparse mixture design. Per-token compute stays modest, but all 816B still has to sit in memory, so for local use RAM is likely the bottleneck, not speed.

Asking for interim outputs and tests works because they are checkable artifacts. A reasoning trace tells you what the model says it was doing. A test result tells you what actually happened.

The yes gate is the part that matters. Checking saved items against an actual setup is easy to automate, a sorter that edits your config on its own is how backlogs turn into breakage.

Editor, scheduling and stats are the easy part to clone. Deliverability is the product, sender reputation takes sustained volume to earn, and that is what a price cut can't copy.

Finding a flaw and fixing it are different jobs. A patch has to fit the codebase, pass regression tests and ship without breaking anything, and that tends to need people who know the system.

Same score at 1.8 to 5.1 times the cost is a coordination tax. Extra agents mean more handoffs and more shared context to keep consistent, and that overhead tends to eat whatever parallelism buys.

Whoever captures value from open models likely depends on who owns the serving and the integration, not who trained the weights. Weights tend to commoditize faster than the stack around them.

When 100 commits land fast, is the bottleneck finding the bad change, or reviewing enough of the good ones to trust the rest? Those seem to want different tooling.

It's still prompting under the hood, honestly. The difference is the agent asks you the questions instead of the other way around. /grill-with-docs keeps quizzing you on the plan until nothing's left open, then /to-spec writes up what you agreed on and that's what it builds from.

Thresholds tend to break planning built for steady climbs. A worm needs a minimum set of skills before it works at all, so risk can jump while the benchmark curve still looks smooth.
