Do people letting a corporation track them and their children know this? 🥺“Does your investigation arise out of a matter related in any way to reproductive health, abortion, abortion services, pregnancy termination, premature delivery, infant welfare, miscarriage or reproductive health counseling?"

I found out recently that some of my friends and family members are tracking their friends, siblings, partners, and children using an app called Life360 which means they’re letting a corporation track them 24/7. Life360 allows external parties to request tracking info specifically around abortion

“if there is one woman in a mathematics (or physics, or economics, or chemistry, or computer science) department out there who feels a little bit more empowered to recognize grooming for what it is, to insist on boundaries[…] it will have been worth it” So much respect. Thank you for speaking out
But it was also this career change, and knowing what it felt like from the other side of the relationship, knowing how I saw my students, and what it would take for me to view them not as people under my care but as objects of sexual desire, that made it impossible not to say anything. To want
someone who wants to learn from you is to want someone for their powerlessness. And so, much later than I should, I realized this was my last chance, and I said something. I know it's going to get ugly - it always does in
these cases - but if there is one woman in a mathematics (or physics, or economics, or chemistry, or computer science) department
out there who feels a little bit more empowered to recognize grooming for what it is, to insist on boundaries, to understand that no matter how flattering it may feel when the professor looks at you like that, it will destroy your relationship with the thing that really matters, which is what he is supposed to be teaching you, and you deserve
better, well, it will have been worth it.

This made me think of Kate Beaton's comic Dude Watching with the Brontes. I did appreciate The Tenant of Wildfell Hall and Agnes Grey for Anne's scathing honesty about class struggle, toxic employers, and unhealthy marriages lol. www.harkavagrant.com/index.php?id...
Kate Beaton's Hark a Vagrant Comic about the Bronte Sisters:

Panel one: Charlotte cups her hand to whisper and points finger gun "What about that one?"
Panel two: douche in a top hat looking gruff "What are you looking at?"
Panel three: Emily "Nice" Charlotte "I know right" Anne "That guy was an asshole"
Panel four: Charlotte turns her face to Anne "Honestly Anne you have *no* taste" Emily from off screen "What about that one?" Anne looking disgusted "I'm just telling the truth!"
Panel five: a dudebro who looks like a raggedy andy doll stands stiffly holding an empty bottle of alcohol
Panel six: all three sisters look at the man. Emily reaches for Charlotte's arm "So passionate" Charlotte putting her hand to her face "So mysterious" Anne, frowning "If you like alcoholic dickbags!"
Panel seven: Emily and Charlotte both look at Anne who looks back dismayed. Emily "Anne you are *so* inappropriate!" Charlotte "No wonder nobody buys *your* books"
Panel eight: Emily and Charlotte looking off screen "What about *that one*" Charlotte adjusts her collar "So *brooding*" while Anne looks the other way with her arms crossed and a frown

caption from the artist: Anne why are you writing books about how alcoholic losers ruin people's lives? Don't you see that romanticizing douchey behavior is the proper literary convention in this family! /Honestly./

www.washingtonpost.comThere are four major buckets within the DOD budget that the new funding could go toward: operations and maintenance, military personnel, procurement, and research and development. It's apparently not clear, though, which areas would benefit most from such a sudden surge in money. The administration's own National Security Strategy, which calls for drawing down U.S. involvement in Asia and the Middle East, makes it even more confusing to imagine what that much surplus could be spent on.
Among many, many other problems with a $1.5 trillion Defense Department budget, one in particular stands out: The military has no idea what it would do with that much money.
Though Trump announced a desired $1.5
trillion budget on social media, according to the Post, the idea came from Defense Secretary Pete legseth, who shares the president's obsession with optics.
ms.now Accountability Office says the Defense Department is the "only major federal agency that has never gotten a 'clean' audit opinion (i.e., when auditors find that financial statements are presented fairly)."
The amount of money that already disappears into the Pentagon's maw is troubling enough without adding $500 billion on top of it.
Consider that White House budget chief Russell Vought, as head of the Office of Management and Budget, has overseen the process of firing tens of thousands of federal employees and tried to slash billions in life-saving government programs from the budget. According to the Post, Vought was one of the main members of the administration to push back on Hegseth's pitch, but to no avail.
We should all hope that that whatever budget Hegseth sends to the Pentagon gets drastically reduced before Congress makes it law. It's ridiculous and discouraging to see the Pentagon be handed more money than it knows what to do with at a time when even a small percentage of that new spending could change millions of Americans' lives for the better.

Trump aides struggle with how to spend $500 billion more on military

The White House budget chief was among those who internally objected to the defense secretary's plan to increase military spending by roughly 50 percent, people familiar with the matter said. The military literally doesn't know how to spend an extra $500
billion

Figuring out what to do with a proposed $1.5 trillion defense budget is reportedly causing major headaches inside the Pentagon.Feb. 24, 2026, 12:23 PM EST
By Hayes Brown
President Donald Trump loves a big number.
Last year, even as Elon Musk's DOGE was hacking away at alleged inefficient and fraudulent federal spending, Trump proposed a record-breaking $1 trillion defense budget.
Even though the budget Congress passed fell short of Trump's proposal, the almost $900 billion authorization was still the biggest ever.
Even so, Trump said in January that his next proposal number would be 50% higher than the last one.
Among many, many other problems with a $1.5 trillion Defense Department budget, one in particular stands out: The military has no idea what it would do with that much money. That's not hyperbole, based on a recent report from The Washington Post, citing sources who spoke anonymously to characterize internal matters.
Trump's extragavent proposal is apparently causing a delay in the White House's annual budget proposal:

Since Trump agreed to the higher number, White House aides and defense officials have run into logistical challenges about where to put the money, because the amount is so large, the people said. The White House is more than two weeks behind its statutory deadline to send its budget proposal to Congress, in part because it is unclear how precisely to spend the additional $500 billion, according to the people familiar with the matter.
Senior Pentagon officials have consulted with former senior defense officials as they grapple with the challenge, said one person familiar with the matter. Part of the discussion centers on how much emphasis should go into buying weapons the military already uses versus investing in high-end technologies, such as artificial intelligence, that the Pentagon envisions as part of its future.

dextromethorphan overdose
Taking too much dextromethorphan can lead to an overdose. Signs of dextromethorphan overdose include:
• Slow breathing
• Fast heart rate
• Psychosis (a changed perception of reality)
• Seizures
• High blood pressure
• Coma
• Death
To avoid a dextromethorphan overdose, make sure you know exactly how much dextromethorphan you're taking. Adults
To avoid a dextromethorphan overdose, make sure you know exactly how much dextromethorphan you're taking. Adults shouldn't take more than 120 mg per day for a maximum of 7 days. If your cough doesn't improve by then, talk to a healthcare provider.

And avoid taking other medications or substances that can cause drowsiness, such as opioids, benzodiazepines, and alcohol.

Remember that dextromethorphan is a common ingredient in combination OTC cough and cold products.

It's also one of two active ingredients in the prescription medication Auvelity.

It's easy to accidentally take too much dextromethorphan if you're using a few different products that contain it.

If you need help calculating how much dextromethorphan you're taking, talk to your pharmacist. They can help make sure you're not taking too much.

“The victims were between seven and 12 years old.” 🥺 I—
At least 85 people, almost all of them young girls, have been killed in an air strike on a primary school in southern Iran, the Iranian judiciary said.
The attack on Saturday morning hit Shajareh Tayyebeh schoolin the city of Minab, in Hormozgan province, as the United States and Israel began launching strikes on targets across Iran.
The victims were between seven and 12 years old, according to Iran's Tasnim and Fars news agencies.
A staff member at the Minab school, who asked not to be named, told Middle East Eye she remains in shock at the intensity of the attack.
Through tears, she said she used to watch the young girls playing at school every day today's strikes, however, she saw their b lying on classroom benches and in different corners of the school.
She said she had stepped out of the school to take care of something when she suddenly heard a horrifying sound. Within seconds, a missile - or something like it - hit the school building.
After hearing the blast, she ran back towards the school and was faced with a scene she says she would never forget.
"I felt like I had gone mute. I couldn't speak," the staff member told MEE. "You could hear the sound of children crying and screaming."
When rescue teams arrived, she said, they began to understand the scale of the disaster.
"We still don't know how many are under the rubble. Some are even saying more than 100.
Some of these small children are severely injured. Their parents have come to th and this place has turned into a house mourning."Anna Gifty • @itsafronomics.blac... • 3h We're all trapped in the twisted reality of a few because they lack the imagination to see other people as human. “Peril” (1995) by Toni Morrison speaks directly to this inthesetimes.com/article/toni...
DESPOTS ARE often, but not always, fools.
But none is foolish enough to give perceptive, dissident writers free range to publish their
judgments or follow their creative instincts. They know they do so at their own peril. They are not stupid enough to abandon control (overt or insidious) over media. Their methods include surveillance, censorship, arrest, even slaughter of those writers informing and disturbing the public. Writers who are unsettling, calling into question, taking another, deeper look. Writers — journalists, essayists, bloggers, poets, playwrights — can disturb the social oppression that functions like a coma on the population, a coma despots call peace, and they stanch the blood flow of war that hawks and profiteers thrill to.
That is their peril.
Ours is of another sort.
How bleak, unlivable, insufferable existence becomes when we are deprived of artwork. That the life and work of writers facing peril must be protected is urgent, but along with that urgency we should remind ourselves that their absence, the choking off of a writer's work, its cruel amputation, is of equal peril to us. The rescue we extend to them is a generosity to ourselves.responses may be censure; incarceration in holding camps, prisons; or death, singly or in war. There is, however, a third response to chaos, which I have not heard about, which is stillness. Such stillness can be passivity and dumbfoundedness; itoan be paralytic fear. But it can also be art. Those writers plying their craft near to or far from the throne of raw power, of military power, of empire building and countinghouses, writers who construct meaning in the face of chaos must be nurtured, protected. And it is right that such protection be initiated by other writers. And it is imperative not only to save the besieged writers but to save ourselves. The thought that leads me to contemplate with dread the erasure of other voices, of unwritten novels, poems whispered or swallowed for fear of being overheard by the wrong people, outlawed languages flourishing underground, essayists' questions challenging authority never being posed, unstaged plays, canceled films - that thought is a nightmare.voices, of unwritten novels, poems whispered or swallowed for fear of being overheard by the wrong people, outlawed languages flourishing underground, essayists' questions challenging authority never being posed, unstaged plays, canceled films- that thought is a nightmare.
As though a whole universe is being described in invisible ink.
Certain kinds of trauma visited on peoples are so deep, so cruel, that unlike money, unlike vengeance, even unlike justice, or rights, or the goodwill of others, only writers can translate such trauma and turn sorrow into meaning, sharpening the moral imagination.
A writer's life and work are not a gift to mankind; they are its necessity.

1. We want freedom. We want power to determine the destiny of our Black and oppressed communities.
We believe that Black and oppressed people will not be free until we are able to determine our destinies in our own communities ourselves, by fully controlling all the institutions which exist in our communities.
2. We want full employment for our people.
We believe that the federal government is responsible and obligated to give every person employment or a guaranteed income. We believe that if the American businessmen will not give full employment, then the technology and means of production should be taken from the businessmen and placed in the community so that the people of the community can organize and employ all of its people and give a high standard of living.
3. We want an end to the robbery by the capitalists of our Black and oppressed communities.
We believe that this racist government has robbed us and now we are demanding the overdue debt of 40 acres and two mules. Forty acres and two mules were promised 100 years ago as restitution for slave labor and mass murder of Black people. We will accept the payment in currency which will be distributed to our many communities. The American racist has taken part in the slaughter of over 50 million Black people. Therefore, we feel this is a modest demand that we make.
4. We want decent housing, fit for the shelter of human beings.
We believe that if the landlords will not give decent housing to our Black and oppressed communities, then housing and the land should be made into cooperatives so that the people in our communities, with government aid, can build and make decent housing for the people.
5. We want decent education for our people that exposes the true nature of this decadent American society. We want education that teaches us our true history and our role in the present-day society.
We believe in an educational system that will give to our people a knowle…7. We want an immediate end to police brutality and murder of Black people, other people of color, and all oppressed people inside the United States.
We believe that the racist and fascist government of the United States uses its domestic enforcement agencies to carry out its program of oppression against black people, other people of color and poor people inside the United States. We believe it is our right, therefore, to defend ourselves against such armed forces and that all Black and oppressed people should be armed for self-defense of our homes and communities against these fascist police forces.
8. We want an immediate end to all wars of aggression.
We believe that the various conflicts which exist around the world stem directly from the aggressive desire of the United States ruling circle and government to force its domination upon the oppressed people of the world. We believe that if the United States government or its lackeys do not cease these aggressive wars it is the right of the people to defend themselves by any means necessary against their aggressors.
9. We want freedom for all Black and oppressed people now held in U.S. federal, state, county, city and military prisons and jails. We want trials by a jury of peers for all persons charged with so-called crimes under the laws of this country.
We believe that the many Black and poor oppressed people now held in United States prisons and jails have not received fair and impartial trials under a racist and fascist judicial system and should be free from incarceration. We believe in the ultimate elimination of all wretched, inhuman penal institutions, because the masses of men and women imprisoned inside the United States or by the United States military are the victims of oppressive conditions which are the real cause of their imprisonment. While the specific policies may have changed since the days of the Jim Crow South, the goal of the SAVE Act is the same:
disenfranchising American citizens and making it harder for eligible people to vote, particularly low-income Americans and people of color.
- Senator Chuck Schumer, quoted in The Washington Times, 12 Feb.
2026

We define the relevant sense of disenfranchise as "to deprive of the right to vote." More broadly, disenfranchise means "to deprive of a franchise, of a legal right, or of some privilege or immunity."

The same corrupt cruelty from those who withheld Supplemental Nutrition Assistance for families in the US last year We must act now to bring caring and resources to those who are most vulnerable and still alive and demand full accountability for those at the highest level who contributed to this
Devout Christians in their early 20s, the couple fled to Kakuma together from South Sudan. They considered parenthood a sacred responsibility - especially Sunday, whose own mother died when she was young. As their family grew, Lotunya had hoped to start a small shop so he could afford to send their daughters to school. "I had that simple dream," he said.
But in June, when Santina was 6 months old, WFP cut the camp's food rations.
Families like theirs were allotted just a small amount of rice and lentils — 630
daily calories per person - which they were expected to make last until August.
Sunday and Lotunya stretched it as long as they could, eating one small meal per day.
But the food ran out before the end of June.
Sunday stopped producing enough breastmilk to feed Santina, and their chubby baby began to waste away. By the time they arrived at the hospital, Santina weighed only 11 pounds. Staff noted in her charts that she was severelv malnourished.

Yep. The US Preventative Services Task Force (uspstf) guidelines were recently updated (2021) after a rise in diagnoses in younger adults. People who screen for and treat CRC started saying, “45 is the new 50”

This final recommendation replaces the 2016
USPSTF recommendation on screening for colorectal cancer. In 2016, the USPSTF recommended screening for colorectal cancer starting at age 50 years and continuing until age 75 years (A
recommendation). In addition, the USPSTF concluded that the decision to screen for
colorectal cancer in adults aged 76 to 85 years should be an individual one, taking into account the patient's overall health and prior screening history (C recommendation) and that screening should be discontinued after age 85 years.
In the current recommendation, while continuing to recommend colorectal cancer screening in adults aged 50 to 75 years (A recommendation), the USPSTF now recommends offering screening starting at age 45 years (B recommendation). As it did in 2016, the USPSTF continues to conclude that screening in adults aged 76 to 85 years should be an individual decision (C recommendation) and screening should be”

Xiong spent hours making calls, trying to locate Elizabeth and her mother. But by that afternoon they learned Elizabeth had been flown down to Texas, a practice that lawyers say is designed to move detainees beyond the reach of legal counsel.
"In my profession, I have seen many people break down in grief, but the image of Elizabeth's father will stay with me forever. I watched him sit in his car, bury his head in his hands and cry

Hours after Xiong spoke about them at the Walz press conference, Elizabeth and her mother were released Tuesday night.
A lawyer working with the family says they plan to stay in Texas overnight before moving to a new location.

- the freedom of speech - the freedom of the press - the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances
From Fascism: A Warning by Madeleine Albright (2017)

“back. The United States has had flawed presidents before; in fact, we have never had any other kind, but we have not had a chief executive in the modern era whose statements and actions are so at odds with democratic ideals.
From the early stages of his campaign and right into the Oval Office, Donald Trump has spoken harshly about the institutions and principles that make up the foundation of open government. In the process, he has systematically degraded political discourse in the United States, shown an astonishing disregard for facts, libeled his predecessors, threatened to "lock up" political rivals, referred to mainstream journalists as "the enemy of the American people," spread falsehoods about the integrity of the U.S. electoral process, touted mindlessly nationalistic economic and trade policies, vilified immigrants and the countries from which they come, and nurtured a paranoid bigotry toward the followers of one of the world's foremost religions.
To officials overseas who have autocratic tendencies, these outbursts are catnip. Instead of challenging anti-democratic forces, Trump is a comfort to them—a provider of excuses. In my travels, I hear the same questions all the”

From “Nothing Personal” an essay by James Baldwin (1965):

By singing, I mean singing for joy, for the hell of it.

“Where the people can sing, the poet can live—and it is worth saying it the other way around, too: where the poet can sing, the people can live.
When a civilization treats its poets with the disdain with which we treat ours, it cannot be far from disaster; it cannot be far from the slaughter of the innocents.”

It has always been much easier (because it has always seemed much safer) to give a name to the evil without than to locate the terror within. And yet, the terror within is far truer and far more powerful than any of our labels: the labels change, the terror is constant. And this terror has something to do with that irreducible gap between the self one invents- the self one takes oneself as being, which is, however and by definition, a provisional self-and the undiscoverable self which always has the power to blow the provisional self to bits. It is perfectly possible-indeed, it is far from uncommon -to go to bed one night, or wake up one morning, or simply walk through a door one has known all one's life, and discover, between inhaling and exhaling, that the self one has sewn together with such effort is all dirty rags, is unusable, is gone: and out of what raw material will one build a self again? The lives of men—and, therefore, of nations-to an extent literally unimaginable, depend on how vividly this question lives in the mind. It is a question which can paralyze the mind, of course; but if the question does not live in the mind, then one is simply condemned to eternal youth, which is a synonym for corruption.

It is a lifetime pursuit for each one of us to extract these distortions from our living at the same time as we recognize, reclaim, and define those differences upon which they are imposed. For we have all been raised in a society where those distortions were endemic within our living. Too often, we pour the energy needed for recognizing and exploring difference into pretending those differences are insurmountable barriers, or that they do not exist at all. This results in a voluntary isolation, or false and treacherous connections. Either way, we do not develop tools for using human difference as a springboard for creative change

By ignoring the past, we are encouraged to repeat its mistakes. The "generation gap" is an important social tool for any repressive society. If the younger members of a community view the older members as contemptible or suspect or excess, they will never be able to join hands and examine the living memories of the community, nor ask the all important question, "Why?" This gives rise to a historical amnesia that keeps us working to invent the wheel every time we have to go to the store for bread.
We find ourselves having to repeat and relearn the same old lessons over and over that our mothers did because we do not pass on what we have learned, or because we are unable to listen. For instance, how many times has this all been said before?

On the other hand, white women face the pitfall of being seduced into joining the oppressor under the pretense of sharing power. This possibility does not exist in the same way for women of Color. The tokenism that is sometimes extended to us is not an invitation to join power; our racial "otherness" is a visible reality that makes that quite clear. For white women there is a wider range of pretended choices and rewards for identifying with patriarchal power and its tools.
Today, with the defeat of ERA, the tightening economy, and increased conservatism, it is easier once again for white women to believe the dangerous fantasy that if you are good enough, pretty enough, sweet enough, quiet enough, teach the children to behave, hate the right people, and marry the right men, then you will be allowed to co-exist with patriarchy in relative peace, at least until a man needs your job or the neighborhood rapist happens along. And true, unless one lives and loves in the trenches it is difficult to remember that the war against dehumanization is ceaseless.

But Black women and our children know the fabric of our lives is stitched with violence and with hatred, that there is no rest. We do not deal with it only on the picket lines, or in dark midnight alleys, or in the places where we dare to verbalize our resistance.

For us, increasingly, violence weaves through the daily tissues of our living — in the supermarket, in the classroom, in the elevator, in the clinic and the schoolyard, from the plumber, the baker, the saleswoman, the bus driver, the bank teller, the waitress who does not serve us.

Some problems we share as women, some we do not. You fear your children will grow up to join the patriarchy and testify against you, we fear our children will be dragged from a car and shot down in the street, and you will turn your backs upon the reasons they are dying.

The threat of difference has been no less blinding to people of Color. Those of us who are
Black must see th…

I am here as a soldier who has temporarily left the field of battle in order to explain - it seems strange it should have to be explained - what civil war is like when civil war is waged by women. I am not only here as a soldier temporarily absent from the field at battle; I am here - and that, I think, is the strangest part of my coming - I am here as a person who, according to the law courts of my country, it has been decided, is of no value to the community at all; and I am adjudged because of my life to be a dangerous person, under sentence of penal servitude in a convict prison.
It is not at all difficult if revolutionaries come to you from Russia, if they come to you from China, or from any other part of the world, if they are men. But since I am a woman it is necessary to explain why women have adopted revolutionary methods in order to win the rights of citizenship. We women, in trying to make our case clear, always have to make as part of our argument, and urge upon men in our audience the fact - a very simple fact - that women are human beings

“Knowingly or unknowingly.” You an interesting opportunity here to play a role in not further entrenching unfair division of labor www.psychologytoday.com/us/basics/we...
Weaponized incompetence, also called strategic incompetence, is when someone knowingly or unknowingly demonstrates an inability to perform or master certain tasks, thereby leading others to take on more work. This generally occurs in two domains-in the household, between partners, and at work, between colleagues. Consistently, weaponized incompetence leads to an unequal division of labor.Weaponized incompetence involves strategically avoiding responsibility-by
pretending to be incapable or inept at a task so that someone else helps, takes over, or stops delegating tasks to them. In this way, the imbalance becomes entrenched over time.
For example, let's say a woman says to her husband: "I'm going to change and feed the baby. Could you make dinner?" In the context of weaponized
incompetence, the husband may say something like: "Oh, I'm such a bad cook!
You're so much better. What should I make?" As a result of his complaining,
asking several questions, or not cooking the meal, the woman may take on the task herself because it feels more efficient

This is how Toni Morrison defines it: “Fascism talks ideology, but it is really just marketing” “the narrow but protective chasm between governance and business disappears.” “so that we will find ourselves living not in a nation but in a consortium of industries” inthesetimes.com/article/toni...
In 1995 racism may wear a new dress, buy a new pair of boots, but neither it nor its succubus twin fascism is new or can make anything new. It can only reproduce the environment that supports its own health: fear, denial and an atmosphere in which its victims have lost the will to fight.
The forces interested in fascist solutions to national problems are not to be found in one political party or another, or in one or another wing of any single political party.
Democrats have no unsullied history of egalitarianism. Nor are liberals free of domination agendas. Republicans may have housed abolitionists and white supremacists. Conservative, moderate, liberal; right, left, hard left, far right; religious, secular, socialist — we must not be blindsided by these Pepsi-Cola, Coca-Cola labels because the genius of fascism is that any political structure can host the virus and virtually any developed country can become a suitable home. Fascism talks ideology, but it is really just marketing — marketing for power.

From the Britannica dictionary:

Rubicon /ru:bi, kain/
noun
the Rubicon
: a limit or point that you reach when the results of your actions cannot be changed

• This word comes from the name of a stream that separated Gaul from Italy. In 49 B.C., Julius Caesar started a war by illegally marching his army across the Rubicon and into Italy.

"He certainly prefers the dictator approach to government," Kelly told the Times, adding later, "I think he'd love to be just like he was in business — he could tell people to do things and they would do it, and not really bother too much about whether what the legalities were and whatnot."
Kelly is not the first former top Trump administration official to cast the former president as a threat.

“In any case, I don't care what hand pulled the trigger; he was put to death by the same oligarchy who still intend, with the country's help, to keep the Negro in his place. That is why he died and that is why nobody cared.” James Baldwin, What Price Freedom? (1964) www.crmvet.org/info/baldwin...
Speech before the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) Conference on Food and Freedom, Washington, D. C. (Nov. 1963.) FREEDOMWAYS
SECOND QUARTER 1964

And I manage, very often anyway, to survive all your prisons, but you the wardens, have not. If we in this country had a stronger grasp of reality and when I say reality I mean the reality of another human being — another human being! If we have not lost that, then the assassination of Medgar Evers would have aroused the country then.

He was a father; he had a wife; he had children, he was an American! He was also killed, we are told, by a lunatic. I am suspicious of these "lunatics" who crop up in the most inconvenient or convenient times and places.

In any case, I don't care what hand pulled the trigger; he was put to death by the same oligarchy who still intend, with the country's help, to keep the Negro in his place. That is why he died and that is why nobody cared.

Six kids were murdered in Birmingham on a Sunday and in Sunday school in a Christian nation, and nobody cared. And because nobody cared then we are in this trouble now; because the forces which we have allowed to take over in this country also killed poor President Kennedy and not because-let us tell the truth-not because he had turned into John Brown and not because he was a great civil rights leader. Let's not be so pious as to make a myth out of what we know.

He died for a very simple and also very complex reason, and when one examines the reason we are seeing something that all of our communications systems deny. What he did was break the bargain the country had struck around the turn of the century, when we agreed in the North that we would do what we wanted to with "our niggers" and in the South you would do what you wanted with
"your niggers." That is what created the "Solid South," and he broke the bargain, poor man. When James Foreman talks about "One Man, One Vote," if we really should achieve one man, one vote, that is the e…thing to then be told by the agents of that oppression "be patient, we will do better tomorrow."
The question will cross your mind
just for a moment: "You will do what better tomorrow?" No, no, the militancy and the vitality that I heard in the music here today comes from the kind of energy which allows you, which in fact forces you to examine everything, taking nothing for granted. To say that it has been this way for the last two hundred years but that it will not be this way for the next five minutes.
That if, for example,
you don't think you can work in the Democratic Party, you don't have to. There are other things. It is a vitality in short which allows you to believe, to act on the belief that it is your country and your responsibility to your country is to free it, and to free it you have to change it.
Americans are the youngest country, the largest country and the strongest country, we like to say and yet the very notion of change, real change throws Americans into a panic and they look for any label to get rid of any dissenter. A country which is supposed to be built on dissent, built on the value of the individual, now distrusts dissent at least as much as any totalitarian government can and debases the individual in many ways because it places security and money above the individual and when these things are cultivated and honored in the country, no matter what else it may have, it is in danger of perishing because no country can survive, it cannot survive without a patient, active responsibility for all its citizens. This country now, in terms of its politicians always seems to feel: "it is out of our hands"; "we can't do anything."

A country which has no objective need to do so is always talking about the lesser-of-two-evils. I hope you see what I am trying to suggest. I am trying to suggest: that in order for me as a black citizen of this country to begin to be a free man here, in order for that to happen, a great many other things have to happen. I…

I’m so glad you’re here 🥺 Rest in peace Melissa, Mark and Gilbert 💕🕯️ www.thecurrent.org/feature/2025...
Sophie and Colin told listeners on The Current that they're honoring their parents by trying to do things to put smiles on people's faces, like Mark and Melissa did, and music is a great way to bring people together and spark joy.
"When I think about mom and dad, that's what I think about, is community, connecting with your neighbors, and turning on the radio to some really good music," Sophie said. When I think of my mom, I think of her dancing," Sophie said. "She was so happy and full of joy."
ABBA's "Dancing Queen" was one of Melissa's all-time favorite songs, and the Swedish pop group's greatest hits provided the soundtrack for many of her "disco walks" around the block.

“For white women there is a wider range of *pretended* choices and rewards for identifying with patriarchal power and its tools.” www.roosevelthouse.hunter.cuny.edu/devdev/wp-co...
“Differences between ourselves as Black women are also being misnamed and used to separate us
from one another. As a Black lesbian feminist comfortable with the many different ingredients of my identity, and a woman committed to racial and sexual freedom from oppression, I find I am constantly being encouraged to pluck out some one aspect of myself and present this as the meaningful whole, eclipsing or denying the other parts of self. But this is a destructive and fragmenting way to live. My fullest concentration of energy is available to me only when I integrate all the parts of who I am, openly, allowing power from particular sources of my living to flow back and forth freely through all my different selves, without the restrictions of externally imposed definition. Only then can I bring myself and my energies as a whole to the service of those struggles which I embrace as part of my living.”“On the other hand, white women face the pitfall of being seduced into joining the oppressor under the pretense of sharing power.
But Black women and our children know the fabric of our lives is stitched with violence and
with hatred, that there is no rest.
You fear your children will grow up to
join the patriarchy and testify against you, we fear our children will be dragged from a car and shot down in the street, and you will turn your backs upon the reasons they are dying.
The threat of difference has been no less blinding to people of Color. Those of us who are
Black must see that the…

Having a good argument (which exists) might not be as powerful or redeeeming as having a genuine friendship and maintaining as open a line of communication as possible so she lets you know how she’s feeling instead of feeling her only confidante is a bot - but the whole situation’s really hard
Strong anti-AI arguments exist, but might just push her away. This might be more of an opportunity to not talk as much about AI, or even listen as neutrally as possible when she brings it up to maintain open communication and take any opportunity to help your friend immerse herself in real life conversations and interactions (maybe with you and your partner or your friend group) so she’s not isolated with the AI and knows other people are there for her and understand her

*sigh* From the article: “Premium users can also converse with satan.” This quote is so scammy: “The bots are pretending to be Jesus.”

They could at least deny it and loudly condemn anyone who would prey on children, even Perón had strong words after he was accused of statutory rape of Nelly Rivas, a 15 year old girl whose parents were convicted and imprisoned for *involvement* in statutory rape
While in exile, Perón sporadically commented on the matter. In Venezuela in
late 1950s, he stated: "That young lady I met was a girl who attended the UES like many others. She is a child, and as a man I could not or cannot see in her anything other than what she is: a child. Because of my age, because of my experience, you can be sure that I did not transgress moral codes."[201 On another occasion, when interviewed by Argentine journalist Adriana Civita in Paraguay, Perón stated: "I don't care what they said or didn't say, what they say or don't say! I'm no saint, but I wasn't going to mess with the little girls at the UES!"[16])
