I argued that a school located on our main transit line had a lot of underutilized land that could be used for housing and I got absolutely blasted on the bad place, by parents and school advocates arguing it wasn't even close to what suburban schools provide. 🥴

Hot take: @kcstreetcar.org is too KC nice, waits too often for passengers not quite at the stop, and dwells way too long to let people meander off the car. Passengers are trained to be slow. Even if you got left at the platform a few times, speeding up dwell times would benefit you and everyone.

I was speaking more generally of this phenomenon — especially in cases where it is supporting the company that is doing a lot of damage to our communities and concentrating wealth. So many orgs do this. I don't blame them, because it is practical and their mission isn't to fix capitalism.

Most of the time, the answer is to just give the charity money directly. But it doesn't give people the same feels as ordering something specific, so charities have to be less efficient to account for human irrationality.
