“Cowboy Roll” • Pen, colored pencil, and copic gray marker on paper. A lone cowboy sits atop a hill in the foreground. He yells out to his colleagues “last one” before rolling down the hill like a silly boy. When he reaches the bottom he sits up and says “just one more.” In the background of the piece we see two other cowboys on their horses and a 3rd horse eating grass. It’s likely these cowboys have been waiting here for sometime. Artist’s note: I like the line work and expressions in this one. I try to keep most of my drawings as single panels so creating movement and time-lapse in one frame is a good challenge.

The 2026 National Book Festival will be held in the nation's capital at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (doors open at 8:30 a.m.). The event is free and open to the public. Tickets are required. A selection of programs will be livestreamed online, and videos of all programs will be available shortly after the festival.
