One of the great mysteries of my life is that once in a while I’ll check out a big game on TV and all of the commentators from my childhood are still there and they’re the exact same age

Looking for things that have helped you believe God is really there and cares about you: 1. A book of theology or spirituality 2. A book of philosophy 3. A book of fiction or poetry 4. A film 5. A song or album 6. A painting or sculpture 7. A conversation 8. An experience in nature or otherwise

“Why are we reading, if not in hope of beauty laid bare, life heightened and its deepest mystery probed? Can the writer isolate and vivify all in experience that most deeply engages our intellects and our hearts? Can the writer renew our hope for literary forms?…

A little sample from my story out in Epoch
200 EPOCH
I thought of the little movies we'd made as kids. The certainty we'd had of a future in filmmaking. I thought of the way he used to talk. Just talk. Just chat. Easy. Late at night. About movies, about books. Anything.
A one-legged man with Bibles came around asking did we know
where wed go if we died.
"Probably hell," I said, "but not forever."
"Scripture," he said, "calls it 'eternal punishment."
"Or an acon of chastisement," I said, "depending how you translate. Which depends on a lot of things, like whether you see God as pure love, sheer benevolence, Plato's Good in fatherly form, or as some omnipotent sadomasochist."
The man took his Bibles and left.
So we lay there in the fluorescent silence. It was a country
hospital. The nurse kept reading. Clock kept ticking.
Until it didn't. That was the night the room was torn away like cheap wallpaper and we were standing in a desert, Dylan and I, fully healed and holding hands, and the stars were out and the hookers were circling a fire and we all took turns stepping into it, feeling it char and singe through our inward abysses, and it wasn't a dream and it wasn't the drugs because we both remembered it later.
But the desert fell away. Our bones were still broken. Low on dough, we snuck out at three A.M. having signed our forms as L.
Manning Vines and Mathias Popkin.

We are Palestinian Christians. We have been in this town since the Lord Christ walked in it. This is our town. We will not leave it. Even if we die, we'll be buried in it, because it's holy ground.
Suleiman Khourieh

aljazeeraenglish Historic Taybeh, a Palestinian Christian town in the occupied West Bank - the place Jesus is said to have withdrawn to before his final journey to Jerusalem - is increasingly being attacked by Israeli settlers. For residents like Mayor Suleiman Khourieh and brewery owner Madees Khoury, the coordinated attacks are disrupting their lives.
Residents face routine restrictions on accessing their farmlands and resources, including the now depopulated Ein Samiya spring that supplies all the water to the Taybeh brewery and other Palestinian communities in the area.
