They call it “radical transparency" But describe perpetual surveillance that runs from cameras in your home to your phone, cars, drones, robots and satellites. “No one can hide” is not progress. It’s the threat.

Startpage mentioned by USA TODAY in its coverage of people fleeing mandatory AI in search engines. Our numbers tell the same story: mobile searches were up 61% YoY in May, MAU up 60%. People want choice. They’re acting on it.

Sorry you ran into this. We had a service disruption earlier that caused intermittent connectivity issues and 503 errors for some users. We’ve put a patch in place and things should be working normally again now. We’re still keeping a close eye on it and will share any further updates here.

Earlier today, a service disruption caused intermittent connectivity issues and 503 errors for some users, particularly in Europe. Our team has made an update that restored normal service, and we’re keeping a close eye on it while we investigate the root cause. Thanks for your patience.

You're welcome. Team fixed this and I just tested to confirm myself that the summary immediately disappears as it should. Thank you again for flagging this.

No Google AI in our results and we're not overhauling our search with AI. We've been running a private AI summary test with a limited group. It can be turned off in settings and we're committing to default OFF for any broader rollout. The blue links aren't going anywhere.

This is why we're going slow with this. We are not overhauling the search experience around AI. We started this limited test because people asked for a private alternative to what's out there, but feedback like yours is important and directly impacts what we do next.

@kernowshark.bsky.social Following up as promised. This is a caching issue: original query shows the summary even after you toggle it off, though new searches work fine (no summary). Fixing this right now, so summaries clear immediately. Genuinely appreciate your responsiveness and feedback here.

Our post was about big tech smothering every surface with inescapable AI. We're testing an AI summary with a limited group right now. In this test, it's on by default, but users can turn it off in settings. For any broader rollout, the plan is default OFF so if you don't want it, you won't see it.

The toggle does work on new searches but won't clear a summary that's already loaded on the page. Toggle off, run a fresh search & you should see clean results. No Google AI is involved (this is a custom, private integration) & I've shared your feedback directly w/ the team. Thank you for flagging.
