I wrote this short poem last year, but it's applicable today where I live. Uninvited An overnight mist Softens the early morning Of autumn days Turns all the cobwebs To luscious jewellery Ropes of sparkling pearls Cars drive cautiously Drifting through lazy cloud banks Arrive late for work

So, TikTok is back on in the USA after Trump said he would suspend the Supreme Court decision and give ByteDance 90 days to find a US buyer. How much difference does this make to the whole sitauation?

Last night's dream. I went outside to my garden. Some of the plants were doing so well, lush and green, that I thought spring is here, then I thought that it isn't, but global warming is accelerating the growth. Then I realised it was a dream. The garden is a cold desert of sparse brown sticks.

Jumping on a trend... I dreamt that my order at Shake Shack kept getting messed up. IDK how you can mess up literally 2 burgers and some fries, but they did. Once I went to Shake Shack IRL. It was bloody awful, but that was 5 years ago and I've never been back, so I don't think this dream is PTSD.

I decided to get WordPress to post all my writing stuff in some kind of organised, attractive site. But now I have to learn how to work WordPress.

Books I didn't finish in 2024, no.6 Facts and Other Lies by Ed Coper A loot at the total shitstorm created by human susceptibility to disinformation, crossed with social media. Very good, but for me another casualty of the neo-Trump era. Still, I'm sure I'll pick it up again in the near future.

Books I didn't finish in 2024, no.5 Holy Sh*t by Melissa More A history of swearing from Roman times to the present day. Actually very interesting, however I ran out of steam 65% through, due to being on holiday. But there are lots of footnotes, so I'm probably not far off the end.

Books I didn't finish in 2024, no.4 School Stories by PG Wodehouse Short stories the famous author wrote before major success. I read the first piece, about a boxing match. The tone of earnest public school boosterism was very dated. It lacked the cynical touch OF Kipling's Stalky and Co.

Books I didn't finish in 2024, no.3 How White Evangelicals Think, by Dave Verhaagen A very interesting book which covers similar themes to The Exvangelicals (Sarah McCammon) from the angle of psychological research. Somehow this whole subject area became rather depressing in November.

Books I didn't finish in 2024, no.2 West Heart Kill by Dan McDorman I like detective stories, I wanted to buy a physical book from my local bookshop, and it had good reviews. Unfortunately I quickly found I disliked the studied metanarrative prose style. I'll probably give it another go in 2025.

Books I didn't finish in 2024, no.1 The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa This is a fairly recent publication in English as part of the new wave of Japanese literature. It was written 30 years ago. I got halfway through and realised I didn't care about the main characters or where the story was going.

Last night I had a very weird dream in which I decided to strangle Elon Musk for farting on my Japanese rice balls. I thought it would also be payback for all the damage he's done to the world. But it was my wife I was trying to attack, luckily without effect. I always write down my weird dreams.
