Additionally, we wanted to take this time to remind y'all that we're also on fedi at @the@starlightnet.work, and we're arguably a lot more active there :) You can still feel free to follow and interact here, but sorry if turnover times are a bit long!

Probably owe y'all an update Botanica is a small, fedora-based operating system aimed at making it easier to set up a Matrix server at home. It's still WIP and many questions are unanswered, but it boots and sorta runs already :)

yeah, typst has such a policy. I'm guessing they just don't wanna deal with other people fucking it up, but are fine with themselves fucking it up. /shrug

Regardless, to answer your question, they're anti-ai, that is to say they reject its use. This is explained by the subtitle of the list itself: > A list of projects that pledged not to use AI or are disrupting it.
110
The Starlight Network @starlightnet.work · 13/07/2026
Sometimes we have to remove a project again, because it turns out that policy is only for public-facing contributions (i.e it's used internally by the developers still), but other than that we like to believe we've done a good job at keeping it consistent.
130
The Starlight Network @starlightnet.work · 13/07/2026
our exact criteria is outlined here fwiw, it boils down to only covering projects which are known to explicitly reject the use of AI, i.e by poisoning files with prompt injection or an explicit policy statement somewhere.

The Starlight Network @starlightnet.work · 13/07/2026
> even though Ive never noticed performance issues. that is probably not the best indicator for whether or not something is 'tainted'. The reason why we chose to make an opposite list to open-slopware is because it's much easier to tell apart a project that rejects AI from one that doesn't.

And finally, we've started slowly branching out our IRC network to also encompass XMPP using a bridge. So, if you wanna talk then look no further! makko@conference.starlightnet.work mynah@conference.starlightnet.work no-ai@conference.starlightnet.work We'll be adding more to this list :)

A good friend of ours has joined the network, and with it Mynah is a new project under our banner. It's a new, Work-In-Progress desktop XMPP client that aims to be customizable, user-friendly and well-supported across Linux, macOS and Windows.

The No-AI List saw several updates that improved some things and added *tons* of new projects (over 70 new projects!...if I didn't miscount lol)

Also about Forgejo, our registrations are now a *lot* more lenient. No longer do registrations need to be manually approved, you can just hit "Sign in with Codeberg" and be right on your way contributing to our projects!

We got all the custom emojis for our Forgejo instance back! There was a big performance regression that made it quite annoying to have this many emojis loaded, but now it's been fixed so we've been able to continue on :)about Makko, the No-AI List or Mynah,

Hiya everyone! We've kept the ATmosphere in the dark for some time about what we've been doing, so I wanted to take some time to catch y'all up on what's been happening :)

# No AI, cuz we don't do that around here. hiya! You might've seen alexia talking about this a bit already, but we're publishing a list of tech that actively rejects or disallows AI contributions noai.starlightnet.work
A screenshot of the No-AI list.

"A list of projects that pledged not to use AI or are disrupting it."

Then follows a list of projects, divided into categories. on the screenshot, "Web/Internet (tools, browser)" and "instant messaging" are visible. The rest is cut off.

But every single day, we learn something new that makes it *increasingly* difficult to justify staying here in any capacity.

It hasn't been long since we set up a PDS with the expressed purpose of still allowing people that prefer this platform to follow our happenings.

It's becoming increasingly difficult to justify being on this platform for us all.

We'll be updating this document according to feedback, and in fact, have already done so! We do not want this to be predatory, but we *also* do not want our contributions to be filled with slop once we adopt a new contributor strategy.
000
The Starlight Network @starlightnet.work · 28/02/2026
Mind you, this is not a Contributor *License* Agreement, because we do not take copyright or ownership of any code contributed. It does however lay out policies, like how your code must be submitted under the same license, and how no LLMs may be used during the production of any code.

Also from the 'moving forward' post: We have a proper process now for when we test new (networked) software, like tangled, such that it's clearer to everyone and it isn't a constant back-and-forth of where we can be reached.

For one, we've dropped our tangled.org experiment Turns out, our values and those of tangled just didn't align. Especially regarding AI Contribution Policy You can read more at starlightnet.work/posts/moving...

yeah, they just straight up ignored that project. Quite disappointing.

All in all, Starlight network verdict: absolute clownshow. Just use a European PDS for bluesky, or go find a mastodon instance. You can find either at arewedecentralizedyet.online/map/ Some people also made w-social.eu, to mock wsocial.eu by listing european Mastodon instances.
w-social.eu
W Social ? Wsocial? Be social! Use Mastodon!

The Starlight Network @starlightnet.work · 23/01/2026
There's also projects like @eurosky.social that they just...seemed to have ignored, despite being *explicitly* told about it
130
The Starlight Network @starlightnet.work · 23/01/2026
They hype it up as "not just another platform" and such, but really this is another Bluesky/social-app AppView that they're spinning up. It was briefly available at staging.wsocial.eu due to an oversight of theirs.

The Starlight Network @starlightnet.work · 23/01/2026
They literally just pretended Mastodon doesn't exist so they can make the *exact* same pitch but more corporate. Luckily, we have a video that shows exactly how they market this. mastodon.social/@quillmatiq/...
mastodon.social

Attached: 1 video Even the launch video is dumb, all of this is so dumb

The Starlight Network @starlightnet.work · 23/01/2026
We think this is, at best, highly silly considering Mastodon gGmbH, in Germany, is literally right there and serves a several-million userbase thanks to federation.

wsocial.eu seems to try and copy X in Europe, with their current homepage heavily implying that there is no European micro logging social media site.
