can't believe we're really getting the taxation of trade routes being in dispute *and* a blockade of deadly battleships

A photo from behind the scenes on filming Revenge of the Sith. Against a bluescreen backdrop, George Lucas snarls and raises his hands to the sky, as Ian McDiarmid in full costume as Palpatine, does similarly in the background.

I don’t know what annoys me more, the fact that this 9-disc set is nearly the same price as the identically structured 27-disc Star Wars set from a few years back or that it’s 220 dollars for a box set that will be outdated by this time in two years.

I don't think his reputation as the world's biggest shill helps improve downloads on dying genres anymore.

Y'know, "lol, obvious flop flopped" aside, imagine spending years of your life making this, and then seeing it laughed off immediately on announcement and shuttered in a month and a half. That has gotta suck. And the attempt to have Geoff Keighley hype it up probably hurt more than it helped.

If the Muppet Show revival special doesn’t get a full series order, I will be baffled, that was so good, and so funny.

Switch 2 pre-ordered! Ended up doing base with MKW separate because I’m stupid, and also grabbed the Pro Controller and Tulin amiibo for that same reason. And I was first up, which was neat. Good times.

Staking out GS with a friend, even the smallest store in my area is getting 9 base and 23 bundle units, so it’s looking like this is gonna be easy, especially given that we were the first here. 2 hours remain!

So…ummm…what was the point of that? I am no more or less convinced than I was before, so….why spend 15 minutes reiterating stuff? #NintendoDirect

Look, I hate to say it, but I actually really enjoyed the Minecraft movie, it was stupid and goofy, but I just vibed with it. It reminded me of the movies I would watch as a kid in the 2000s, even the dumbest stuff (Jennifer Coolidge subplot my beloved) kinda won me over. 7/10.

This is all becoming very difficult to defend, can they do ONE pro-consumer thing this gen? One, it’s all I’m asking. Sony isn’t even this greedy, and they made their fans pay for the disc slot for the “best” version of their console separately.

"Abhorrent alien creatures, living in the jungle" is delivered with such venom that it feels almost racist. Like, Samus is in THEIR jungle, that's like saying "Disgusting lions, living in the savanna".

Amazon productions have a history of looking like Best Buy demo footage despite their budgets and licences. This franchise simply cannot be churned out like that, its whole appeal comes from watching a cool man go to a tangible cool place and do cool stuff there. I can’t have another Die Another Day.

I mean, I'll give it this, it's honestly a decent steelbook design for once. Makes me even more annoyed at how ugly the Sonic 3 one is.

The Rizzler in your cinema? It's more likely than you'd think.

Ari @stariknight.bsky.social · 20/12/2024

Overall, I liked it, but this one really suffers from being a wacky family film the most out of the series so far. I hope the next one can really work on that. The old cast is still great, Keanu is a great addition, and the credits scene got me excited for what's to come. Hope it comes out great.

Even when (SPOILERS) Gerald is set to destroy the world. They're having a mechanical slap fight instead of really letting this be the thing that lets things get serious. Maybe more runtime could have added more somber and serious moments, because the film excelled when it got to them.

Ari @stariknight.bsky.social · 20/12/2024

It reminds me far too much of Thor Love And Thunder, in which a serious talk about mortality is constantly undermined by Valkyrie and Korg riffing. 2 did a much better job balancing by having Eggman and Knuckles as the snarky one and the straight man. Now it's just two goofy guys being wacky.

100

Ari @stariknight.bsky.social · 20/12/2024

I think my biggest problem is Gerald, or at least he's the most emblematic of the problem. He's way too goofy for way too much of the runtime, and even when stuff gets serious, it's only temporary before he starts being a slapstick character again.

Ari @stariknight.bsky.social · 20/12/2024

So, on the subject of Sonic 3. As a fan? Fantastic time. They finally listened to our pleas for actual game music, lots of little rewards for being a knowledgeable long term fan. As a movie....it's alright. I feel it's not as good as 2, for sure. It has big tone problems, and is a bit too short.

110

Ari @stariknight.bsky.social · 20/12/2024

I agree, honestly. It was a super fun 7, but that's what I'd give it too. I found it slightly weaker than 2 overall, felt like it needed a longer runtime and some tone adjustments.

And, to reintroduce myself, I'm Ari! I'm a loud nerd who mostly talks about movies and video games. Sonic The Hedgehog, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Persona, and miscellaneous techie nonsense will be the primary topics, so look forward to that when I remember to post! Hooray!

I've been taking E for a few months now, and I think I was at an emotional point of "am I just making my life harder unnecessarily?", and then FUCKING BARBIE stormed in and was honestly the exact affirmation I needed? What kind of nonsense is that?

000

Ari @stariknight.bsky.social · 26/07/2023

I swear half of my brain space for the last several days has been exclusively dedicated to the Barbie movie. I think marketing it as a pure comedy was honestly a great move, because it blindsided me when that Billie Eilish song started and I fell apart immediately.
